Wouldn't the same thing happen without running a tube?
Does this also depend on the tire and condition? My versys (with tubes/spoke rims) has gotten a nail in the rear and it wasn't flat by the time I got to work about a mile away from when I noticed something was off.
I've always heard you could put a tube in a tubeless tire with a puncture as a patch to get you home, so I imagine it works fine atleast temporarily.

The idiot that owned this bike prior to me had used fix a flat in both tires. A LOT OF IT!! I cleaned the f*** out of 'em, .. cleaned them the best I could. Both tires leak in several places between rim and tire. Stumped!

Excellent question! Old tires should be replaced. Period. Ed

While most of the 1973 thru 1977 Kaw 900 & 1000 models with spoke wheels use inner tubes
that are readily available, many of the mag-wheel models from 1977 thru 1980 use tubes that are not
so easily found - -
Unfortunately, the solution at some motorcycle shops is to install tubes that aren't quite right...
....And much worse, some shops and Kaw owners are unaware that ALL of the 1977 thru 1980 1000 mag-wheel
models REQUIRE a tube - These mags often have porous castings, and they were not tubeless rated....
Running them without an inner tube can result in pressure leaks - OR WORSE!
