I don't have a 1000 so I may be talking out of my ass, but on a lot of older bikes like KZ's the caliper can be removed from the caliper hanger and brake stay so you can change the pads without removing the wheel. Worth a try anyway.

It would be difficult to get the outer pad because the outer part of the caliper is on the axle shaft, so it cannot be pulled back to expose the pad. The pad would be up against the disc unless the axle bolt is loosened off far enough to remove it.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Back again. Yes. finally got the rear pads changed. The back wheel must be pulled to access the caliper, pads, etc. If that helps anyone or confirms the task for future.
One hour to pull and an hour to replace. A Rookie.
So, While testing the pad work install and spinning the rear tire I noticed the old rotor is rubbing at a specific area against the New pad (aka pad B according to the kawasaki service manual ) Warped maybe?
Secondly, while web surfing for the replacement rotor for this rotor part #
41080-008. Located at partszilla and bandit sites,
The part is not available !
Does anyone have any suggestions for a new REAR replacement rotor?? 1978 kawasaki 1000 ltd b2
Thanks kzriders

Send it to truedisk.net
It is here in Michigan
They service rotors and will drill them if you want in many different patterns.
I met the owner at a bike show some years ago and he looked at my 78 LTD rotors
and said our style and thickness rotors are plenty thick by design and are a easy job
A lot of newer bike rotors are much thinner by design and cant always be resurfaced
due to lack of remaining mass / thickness.

That is good news. I had measured the rear rotor and it showed around 6.8 mm +/-. on the. tool measurement display. The 78kaw 1000 ltd service manual specs 7 mm as new. And out of service. at. 6 mm. I 'll. reach out to truedisk.net for some options and report back with some sorta follow up. Drilled would be nice.
Thanks. Ride On!

I had spoken with the owner Tom @Truedisk.
Very helpful.
With that, I have decided to seek a used replacement rear rotor for my 78 kz1000 b2 ltd. And possibly have Truedisk perform the refurbish/ replacement.
I found one nearby in Indy. It looks like an aftermarket item with a similar bolt pattern??
Here it is:
Any thoughts on the used drilled rotor ? ID ?
Does the brand/ type look like a potential match ?
The 4 bolt pattern looks good.

Are you concerned about staying correct for your year? That’s appears to be a ‘79 and newer. Also I think the 1978 had holes the create the spokes not square as your replacement has. First compare the offset (distance from rotor surface to mounting surface) to make sure you do have a rear rotor. A rear has a smaller offset then the fronts. Looks correct but a photo can distort actual 3D dimensions visually

I see a lot of un-used disk surface. Are you sure you use the right caliper (Position to disk) or brake pad shoes?

It has the original rotors. Round not square holes. And 78 was not drilled

I thought I was correct. Question, did just the just LTD’s have the round holes in the rear rotor. My 1976 900 LTD has the same rear rotor.
