Has anyone taken one of the reissue ones apart to see what they look like?
At 1,350 miles, I am stunned that mine took a dump this bad.... it's worse then any of my busted OEM ND gauges.
I've never had one that ran backwards under acceleration.... that is insane.

The photo at Zresto looks like a stripped down speedo to me.
And I see the little area reffering to the "damper".

They're would be no reason for the gear(s) or the bracket to hold the OD and trip OD assembly in a tach... right?

Right. The Tach's don't have it. My first repro Speedo OD stopped working then started running backwards. I've never seen that before.

Last year I found an bought a KZ750 Speedo with under 8000 miles on it for $40.00... are the guts of that the same as the KZ1000A?
I mean is it the same 2240rpm = 60mph or what ever it is, I've forgotten,
The face plate goes to 140mph but the number's inking appear to be in the same degrees of rotation around the face....

No the 70 is in the middle whereas the 80 is on the 1000. Might be possible to change the drive then switch the face plate.

Thinking about it, maybe the springs are different.

If you mean that little clock spring attached to the needle shaft.... nope, don't want to touch that thing.
Fragile and it could be calibrated or something.
Just don't know enough....
pissed in Denver....

Hmmmm I wonder if moving that little spring stop on the half shell above the drive, is to increase or decrease tension on that return spring... is where that 2240RPM = 60mph comes from?
I mean spin the drive at 2240rpm and adjust that spring tension so the needle reads 60mph then remove the needle and reset in manual on the shaft so it says 0mph at rest? Keep bouncing that around until it's right?
Somebody has to know this crap... seems like there's always someone else here who knows some obscure thing
about these bikes! LOL

I think you're right but it's for fine adjustments. Interesting to find out.

Animation | How speedometer works | Eddy current type.

A description of the function of the hairspring starts at the 3:15 mark.

Very simple example of a much more complex system.
