drilled rotor for kz400 wheel
10 Aug 2015 13:53
So I'm about done with my build, and I can't help but notice how much of an eyesore(to me at least) the stock 400s solid disc is? It's just so big, round and out there..staring at me!?
The 440 disc won't bolt up, the 4 bolt pattern is if I remember right, larger? I've tried using kawasakis parts diagram to see any cross refs. but it's not letting me see the parts?
I'd really like to change the rotor out for a xdrilled one. If it needs a spacer behind the 4 bolt, fine can do. but I'm really limited on clearance there since I'm running the 440 forks and 400 spoked wheel. Anyone know of a rotor that'll suit? drilling them myself is the last option. thanks in advance folks!!

Cheap labor isn't skilled, skilled labor isn't cheap.

Anyone know what the average cost is for drilling and chamfering, vintage, solid rotors?

+1 for true disc but I think it's 45 a rotor. Mike did a great job on my kz1000 rear rotor. Can drill to any pattern you like.

Also if the holes diameter is the same as the rotors thickness you are increasing surface area

The truedisk website says $45 per rotor to resurface. For drilling they say "$35 We do offer drilling for cooling purposes and looks @ $35.00 per rotor and pending on amount of holes drilled might be extra after standard drilling." So if you have more than the standard drilling done the cost is higher. Your rotor looks like it was done really well.

I havent ridden this rotor yet but based on my 650 which i had him do the rotors on as well its a tiny bit noisier when you engage the brake as you can hear the holes. i didn't notice it at first its so quiet though.

Thanks all for the quick replies and the link! I pretty much read everything on Toms site. Saw a few pics of KZ rotors there also. Sent him an email, gonna wait for a reply. Doc!? that rotor is a beaut! I'd almost put a dress on it instead  That's a CSR rotor right?

It was said the Z1R rotors were noisy. I was planning on having my stock rotors drilled but when I read they wouldn't cut past the factory limit, I bought the drilled later model ones. They're almost 1/2 the weight. They are quiet too. Now I think I know why they had the odd pattern.
