HELP ASAP!! was created by Richardb98
So the other day I was taking up a bit of chain slack, and long story short I wasn't paying attention and it got wayyyy to tight. (As a side note I replaced the chain tensioner bolts because they'd swollen) but now I can't loosen the chain. The axle bolt has seized from corrosion and I've been coating it with used motor oil to try and loosen it. To no avail. I put the tensioner screws out about an 8th inch and road it a bit thinking the wheel would work itself back. Now it's tighter! I don't want to mess up my baby so any help would be much appreciated

Try a mixture of standard GM type type automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Maybe half and half or 1/3 tranny fluid and 2/3 acetone... keep it wet for a few hours and maybe it will soak in and loosen up...
By the way, you aren't the first to have a stuck axle nut.
I've revived old ass motorbikes where I had to use a 18" to 24" cheater bar extension , on a breaker bar/socket combo to get the axle nut to break loose.

Thanks for the reply. It's pouring right now so as soon as it lightens up I'll go try that. Soak it overnight

Heating just the nut with a torch might help.

If you try the ATF and acetone, be sure you don't get it on your paint.

I would use a torch to heat the nut, then just use a breaker bar. The tensioner screws shouldn't affect the axle bolt, as they pull the entire axle assembly.Probably good to ensure they're loose before trying the nut though - the only way I can see them being damaged is if they're in tight and you wrench the axle bolt.

Good point and should be obvious... same thing with using a torch to heat the nut!!! Watch what you are doing and be careful... for my sake... don't do both!! LOL

Harbor freight sells an 1/2" electric impact wrench for $50. I know because I just had to buy one today to get my front sprocket nut off (which must have been torqued to over 200ft/lbs). Did a much better job than a two foot breaker bar and a pint of elbow grease, so I'd say it was worth the $$.

When you put it back together, consider using anti-seize and a torque wrench so it doesn't get stuck again.

ive been soaking since yesterday and nothing yet. I don't have a torch on hand or an impact drill. I don't want to go out and buy one either because my dad owns one but him and my step mom are getting a divorce blah blah so I can't get to it. I'll just be patient and let it soak for now.

Impace wrenches are nice, but a breaker bar will still work fine. My brother has a 380Nm impact wrench, but when that can't get the job done, the 80cm breaker bar will.
