question for fitting new ZRX shocks to the KZ
04 Apr 2015 12:59
I picked up a pair of ZRX shocks and went to install them today. I got the rightside on just fine, but the left side is touching the chain. I'm not happy about not running without the chain guard, but I can live with it. What's the best way to solve this problem? Do I maybe move the bottom left shock mount out about .5''? If I do that, do I have to do anything with the top mount? Thanks.

i would recomend notching out your chain gard or modifying it. you could also build you a custom chain gard. i would not recommend modifying the frame shock mount or changing the geometry of the bike. by the way nice looking shocks. dave

I would totally do that, but the shock coil is actually touching the chain. Not ridable as is. Maybe I'm just f'ed with these shocks?

Most people i have seen run these also do a ZRX swing-arm swap and they move the upper mount out as well. are the shocks handed? if so, try switching them side to side.

How much is it touching? If you arent too far up the spring maybe a 530 conversion and smaller sprockets would help? Ehh looking at it I kind of doubt it though

I was thinking that the 81-82 gpz 1100 swingarms might be a little wider at the rear. If so that may give you enough clearance. that may be an option and i know the inside pivot area is the same. im assuming your keeping the stock look. Or maybe as floivanas said chain conversion.

530 chain is the same inside width as a 630, but they can be a tiny bit thinner depending on the brand. The other option might be to go up a tooth or two on your front sprocket to use a smaller rear sprocket which might give you some more clearance.

What about flipping the shocks upside down? I believe the upper mount/body is considerable narrower than the spring section. Might give you enough.

I've read here that to off set the wheel doesn't cause problems on the radical builds. How about off setting it 1/4"?
