So I found this guy on youtube:


He hasn't replied yet but the story is that this gentleman mounted a KZ650 caliper on his KZ200.
There are no further detaisl so I was wondering if somebody from this forum knows if it will fit plug and play.

It doesnt seem like the guy in the video used a bracket or something to make it fit.

There are some threads on this forum about converting the cable operated brake into a hydraulic operated but most of the threads died and never showed their results.

Anyone?

Quick update. I found a 43041-030 caliper that came from an KZ750B and I'm going to try to make that fit.
Last week I bought a cheap brake set from a gt550 but that wont fit because the brake pads are too small for the kz200 disk/rotor.

Hope to bring the good news in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately not yet. The caliper from the Kz750 is about 4 milimeter too big and hits the fork.

The kz750 mounting holes (where the calipers mounts to the frame) do not line up on the fork. So I tried to make the kz200 bracket fit onto the kz750 caliper. To my surprise the caliper does fit onto the kz200 bracket but because the kz750 is a bit different it doesent bolt onto the fork because the caliper is just a little bit too big.

So i've got to make a bracket myself. I'm not sure how I'm gonna make that happen yet.

Hi , just joined today I'm doing a z200 cafe racer , almost done , will post some pics soon , bought new front brake pads and had disc machined and it still won't stop !!!! Im going to look into a hydrolic conversion next week , will keep you posted if I have any luck

Have you taken the caliper apart and cleaned all the moving parts? I just did this on my '78 KZ200 and all the old lube/grease was causing the auto adjuster to stick and not work.

I haven't tried to swap the caliper yet unfortunately.

But I did lubricate the brake cable with some engine oil and re-routed the cable so there arent too sharp bends in it, that really helped. it is drivable now.

When I do eventually make the caliper swap I will keep you guys posted. I promise!

Hi All, I've owned my Dad's KZ200 since I bought it off him in early 90s to commute with. I've had it in the garage and in boxes unused for about the last 20 years and I've finally got round to bringing it back to life. As it was a boring commuter bike with a serious lack of following or street "Cred", I've decided to convert it into a "Flat Tracker". Like the other previous posts I want to convert the front brake as I nearly ended up rear ending a car on my last trip out due to the shocking poor front cable calliper. Unfortunately, no one has come back with an easy viable solution as to what they did. I have researched as best I can with regards to the Z650 calliper swap with or without the bracket but the measurements don't seem to tie in from what I have been told? If anyone has done this I would be very grateful. My other option is to change the front forks complete with Drum, wheel Speedo-drive etc etc with something else, but that starts another whole world of problems and research and I would like to keep the original front end if possible. Any help or ways forward would be gratefully received. Thanks in Advance

Does your bike have a Fr Drum brake? What year & model is it?
The KZ200As I checked at Partzilla have a cable operated Fr disk brake.
