the cool thing about building your own bike is that you get to do it any way you see fit.

to keep it from looking like it is just added on i would cut the back out of the frame and bend new tubing and rebuild it to use the swingarm full width and make it look factory.

thats my .02,keep us posted,

How much wider does it need to go? I assume that since the shaft is on the RH side, the frame to swingarm dimension there is most critical to ensure your drive shaft lines up? I would be tempted, if it is close, to slice the frame cross members in that area and at the section where the seat would reside, and using a shaft to hold the pivot and motor mounts in line, spread the frame apart, and let it relaxe using a port-a-power. Keep doing that until is relaxes the width you need, then cut in new cross members..... That way it looks completely facotry and your pivot alingment should stay true without a whole frame jig.

The swing arm pivot size, is that going to be a major problem that would require new frame bushing plates anyway? Might be a mute point then,,,,,you would have to do what Leon described.

What's that swinger off of?

The swing arm is 2" wider than the original one. If I widen the frame it would line up nicely if the pivot points on the frame stay where they are just wider.

The swing arm is off of a 2007 GL1800 Goldwing.

Let's compromise people :silly: Can you do a combination of both? Trim the arm a pit and widen the frame a bit more? Good luck

I may have too. My priorities are:

1) Safety
2)Performance
3)Looks

As long as it is safe the other 2 should fall into place

KZ Smitty/Black Banshee what is the clear distance inside? I am looking at a swingarm swap on my 1982 GPZ1100 and want to have an idea about what the clear distance is as I surf for swingarms at work? I put a tape on it Saturday and came up with 10"(250 mm) do you guys have an exact distance?
