kz750 front end swap
13 Feb 2014 19:08
I bought this Dna springer front end which I am picking up tomorrow. Ive been wanting one and by shear luck when selling some old parts the guy buying parts was selling one new never used with a 21" spool wheel that a disc can be mounted to if I want to add a break.
Has anybody put a dna springer front end on there kz750 or bike with same fork mount.
I am curious what bearings I will need for it and if fork stem length is going to be an issue. I know top and bottom bearings are different. I was looking at allballs website for conversions and got really confused. it was saying the kz750 top bearing width was 12 the OD was 48 and ID was 30. What measurements are these? I need a bearing that will fit the 1" fork stem on the dna springer.
Any info on this would be great, opinions welcomed too.

Get a metric caliper or micrometer to measure the springer steering stem. Since the bearings are metric the stem needs to be metric. 1" = 25.4mm so the part you measured is probably 25mm. Measure top and bottom where the bearings fit and post the numbers here.
It would be easier for me to look up the bearings than describe how to do it
Edited:
I was mistaken, the 750 twin (I assume that's what you have) uses 30mm top and bottom. The important numbers are the OD and height. 48mm x 12mm top, and 52mm x 16mm lower. So all you need is the stem diameters and those will be the bearing ID.

okay kool . The stem on the springer should be 1 inch and the bearings he is giving me fit the springer and possibly my bike .
Also the stuck metal ring in the top and bottom of the fork neck where the metal beads sit is the bearing race correct?
I will come back with more numbers in 2 or 3 houra when i have the springer to measure.
Thanks Steell

Yes, those are the ball bearing races and the need to be removed when switching to tapered roller bearings.

i would do a lil research on dna springers before i trusted mine or anyones a$$ to one.
at least you would be informed.
www.google.com/search?q=are+dna+springer...0&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8
a stem swap will make any front end fit any bike with oem bearings and seals.

I did do some research it this is the springer front end that will work. I just picked it up from the guy. we made a deal for just the dna springer. I didn't want the spool wheel because I here so many bad things about them. Im going to try and get some slightly bigger ID wheel bearings to run the springer axle bolt. This way I can keep my front wheel, speedometer, and front brake.
He gave me bearings that fit my bike and told me all I should need is a top tree clamp and bearing races for the slanted bearings.
Will post pics of the springer for anyone who wants to see it.

Can't I just take the front wheel bearings from my kz750 to a shop and have them machine the inside larger to fit the springer axle? Seems simple enough?

Only if you want them to laugh at you. Ain't gonna happen, find the appropriate bearings and go to town.

Can anyone tell me the stock measurements of 79 kz750 twin front wheel bearings? Like the OD and the width. I have them out and measured in inches. I just want to make sure my measurements are correct.

Sure, just look in the Filebase that's shown at the top of this and any page on KZR. I know there is a list of front wheel bearing sizes. Or you could look at the kawasaki.com parts diagrams and get the bearing number (ie: 6305, 6204, etc). Read the following link and bookmark it.
Bearing Notes
Grainger has a ton of bearing info on their site also.

Awesome thanks. I just sent Allballs racing an email about getting bearings that fit my bike and the axle but incase they don't reply I will have to look myself. This helps a lot since I cannot accurately measure the bearings(micrometer broke on me
)
