Those look about right. Should I keep them or change them out?

This bike was missing the gauges so I bought this complete dash from ZResto.

Did'nt take any b-4 pics. my original speedo was in great shape, but only went up to 85 MPH, so I bought this speedo on E-bay, it had a cracked glass some rust & faded, Looked like brand new when I got it back, as you can see :)

That is the same dash as mine. What did it run you? How much do you think it would cost to have them redo my gauges? I am thinking about buying a set like you did and parting mine out on ebay or the forum. Thoughts?

According to www.zresto.com/ --
Individual gauge restoration prices can vary based on the parts required - most gauge restoration is $95.00.

Good Fortune! :)

I found a real clean set on Ebay to purchase, they are . . . Carbs 29mm Mikuni Smooth Bores drag bike kz900 kz1000 z1 smoothbore

Would these work?

Those 29 smoothies will work, they were a very popular go-fast goodie.....stock were 28's. Just curious how much are the smoothbores going for?

It looks you are getting alot of good info.
Some of the "little" tricks I have done to my Z1a.
On the front end,
I swapped the fork tubes side to side so my brake caliper is on the right side and behind the fork leg.
MUCH less steering input from the brakes while braking.(it's physics)
I run a 3.50v19 NOT a3.25 front Metzeler laser tire.
I can make it howl with 2 fingers and slide with 3 .
That's enough brake for me.
With a single disc.
And I put aircaps on the forks, just 1 or 2 psi cuts WAY down on the dive while braking.
And I sanded the top inside of the fork wipers so they wont let water in but don't act like hose clamps either.
OH and I think I have been thru 3 sets of leak proof seals over the years.
15 wt kelgard fork oil, I think I run 10/15cc's more the the book calls for.

Is it as good as a new upsidedown fork? NOPE
Is it as good as I can get after 30 years? YUP
Is it MUCH better then stock? You bet!!!

PS I use a little hand pump made by S&W ,for the air, gas station air will hurt air suspension.

Like Patton said , it all depends on the parts required .

I believe STOCK, the engine covers (NOT cases) came polished and then clear coated with a few coats of lacquer, same with the lower fork legs.

The stock carbs for a Z1b are VM28SC.

And surprisingly, jetted somewhat differently that the Z1 or Z1a.
