I just got a 78 kz 650 for free from someone that was moving across the country and its the first one I've ever owned so I am new to the kz's. I am wanting to do a modern sport bike front end swap. What model would make the best doner? I've seen that the gsxr is popular is that because its the easiest? Also the gsxr seems to b the most expensive. Also what is involved with a swap like that? Is it as simple as just pressing out the gsxr stem and making the stock kz fit? Any help would b greatly appreciated. Thanks
Also mine is the one that has a removable round gas cap not the one that's hinged to the tank and I don't know what model that makes it.

I can only speak for the front end swap I did. 1997 GSXR 750. Very easy to do. If you look through the project threads you will find a lot of details on how it was done. Essentially what I did was grind the welds off the lower triple to stem. Press out stem. Then I used the gsxr stem to make a sleeve that I welded onto the kz stem. Pressed that into the gsxr lower. Then I have to turn down the upper portion of the kz stem to fit my gsxr upper triple. Total project time was about 45 minutes. I did go back through on reassembly and make everything pretty. You will also need to figure out a steering stop. I just welded a piece of 1/2" rod onto the frame. Simple, looks good and functional!

I think the difficult part for me was recreating, and modifying the headlight bracket.
