I'm leaning towards the right side just being off a little from the factory as nothing appears bent or twisted. If that isn't the case then possibly someone used the right ride mount as a lifting point and it got tweaked in the process. I am taking it to a local that has a long history with these bikes and have him look at it and will let everyone know what I find out. Be a few days.

try swapping the shocks side to side and see what it does ,if frame was bent sitting on it isnt going to change that.

the shocks play a big part of tying everything together, when bike is on sidestand the weight is shifted a bad shock would magnify the affect.
if id known about it leveling out when you sit on it i would of suggested checking shocks earlier

well i wouldn't say it levels out, the space just increases on both sides. i will swap them out though and see what happens, it's EZ enuff, kind of hope it isn't the shocks, they are Ohlins and I really can't afford to replace them.

With the bike sitting straight up, can you measure your exhaust mounts from the groud to see if one has been tweaked? Check the swing arm heights as well for twisting. Beautiful Bike, good luck.

what is a good way to make sure it's level? i had a friend hold it upright last night to do this, but just a small tilt either way slews the measurements.

 Perhaps shorter rear shocks might afford vertical clearance, as with the oem swing arm.

Good Fortune! :)

Or eliminating the pesky exhaust mount that seems to be the problem B)

Here, for reference, is pic showing clearance on stock KZ900-B1 LTD (thinking same as standard model KZ900) with stock length shocks.

Good Fortune! :)
