raising forks...

On my KZ1000K2 project I put on some drag bars which I love and don't want to swap out BUT as an unwelcomed and unexpected side-effect I have nice dings in my new paint where my handlebars dinged the tank. I was thinking of shimming the turning lock to keep the bars from touching the tank, but then I read about raising the forks. If lets say raising the forks in the trees by 3/4" or 1" eliminates the problem would I have to shorten the rear suspension to keep things balanced, or does it matter in terms of handling?

If I'm following you correctly, raising the forks doesn't move the handlebars. The upper fork clamp will still bein the same position relative to your frame/tank. Your best bet is to mess with the steering stops or get a set of handlebars with a "superbike" bend to them.

Not sure if the big kaws have the same stop on the frame as the 650 which is a post on the bottom of the steering area.
I put a rear axle bolt over the post of mine to stop the bars from hitting the tank.
I needed to file the inside of the nut a little to get it on.

I never thought of using a nut, that is a good idea, nice and solid...I'll try to find some that fit.

So as not to mess with your front suspension... Have you thought of handle bar risers? ;)

yeah...in the 3rd post :D

Risers would be good, I am going to check out how high they would have to be to clear the tank...I don't want a streetfighter bike with chopper height risers lol.

1-3" rise should clear the tank I would think... Easiest way to go about it....

interesting, I think you are onto something there tri. I will add the beans to the chilli at the end instead of right away with the meat.

So instead of raising the bars an inch you'll decrease your turn radius "turn radius shim"... I got this right...

Damn, I would think this would be an easier solution but your build....
