Anyone know if there are any standard frame bracing improvements that can be done to a "J" series frame (LTD, CSR, GPZ, J, ETC.) I am picking up a 82 LTD frame and want to start another bike from scratch. I would like to do this NEW GPz Replica totally right, starting with the frame. The one I have just recently finished seams to still have a little wobble at very high speeds and I would like to remedy this problem on this next bike. It is not severe like on the KZ series frames but still there a little bit. The frames on the "J" series bikes already have much of the reinforcements normally installed on the earlier bikes, but I would still like to make it stiffer. (the frame that is, for all you wise guys  ) I would be quite sure that no one would make a kit for this stile frame so I would like to know what type of steel tubing I should use and where to place it. Let me rephrase that, where to place it on the frame. :silly:

You are right that there is a good bit of bracing already present. And even new my '82 had a weave at anything above 110 mph. As it got older the weave extended to lower speeds.

It might be helpful to post pictures of the frame so that anyone that hasn't seen one can see where the braces are already. I could post a few if you need me to.

My guess is that the swingarm bushings might need attention. I will say that the cornering capability of that bike is quite good.

Find a police bike frame. I don't have a picture, and it's been a while, but as I recall, there were extra tubes before and after the coils that form triangles connecting the three backbone tubes. I think there was also one between the shock mounts.

[edit] I'm not suggesting to use the police bike, just to look at the areas Kawasaiki braced on them.

That is what the frame looks like minus the extended tubes to the tail. The bike has a GS1100 box Aluminum swing arm with needle bearings installed.

I can't believe that no one here knows anything about beefing up these frames. Someone here has or had to race these bikes!

like these braces?

1 thing i dont see on these frames is a brace above, and parallel to the swing arm. This was something that Tony Foale (frame guru)added to the 750 frame he did. he also added cross braces between the 2 front horizontal cross braces.
If u PM me i could email u a file with frame pics and a bit of theory.

This frame also does not have the bracing typically found above the swingarm pivot, but EL did tolerably well on it anyway.
This is the KZ1000S1 frame

That looks like a stock GPz1100 frame, vice the two little studs up front, and the rear cut off. Is this the original Muzzy frame or is it a replica?

Somewhere I have a hand-scribbled picture of a racing frame that shows bracing almost identical to the Kosman kits, except that the top shock mounts had been move forward. The frame in the pics above have the same bracing save for the litte tubes in the V just above the swingarm bolt and nut heads, and the cross and/or diagonal brace across the frame where the airbox went. Cop bike frames have the extra bracing near the coils, but obviously not the braces where the airbox goes.
