makes sense that the mkII would be that way.

i did make some head way on the gussets tho.

i cut out the two for the upper tubes and the one that connects the front dwon tubes.i figured if i was doing it once i might as well do it twice while all the stuff was set up.

it seems like you will have to spread the front tubes to fit the gusset in there.because of the way they are angled if you cut it to slip in there is a huge gap.
any body know?

When I did it many years ago, I cut the braces out for where I wanted them and then worked them up from the bottom til they were where I wanted them. Frame is wider on the bottom and I think I had to "persuade" them a little.

thanks for the reply racer54.
hmm,the frame is wider at the bottom.
but the bosses for the removable motor mount and the weld on the stationary mount get in the way and you can't push them up from the bottom because of this.this is a 1976 kz 900 frame that i am using to mock up.all the gusset kits that i have seen advertised always say 900/1000 so i hope they are all close enough to the same to work,as i am building one of these kits for a guy out of state.
i would guess that no matter who builds the kit or whether you have the actual bike there is still going to be a little "persuading" one way or the other.

i noticed that it seemed like the japanese guys dont add a tube between the bottoms of these tubes.
anyone ever add them?
seems like they would get in the way of cam cover removal.

this is how the race shop did my frame back in 79. they used plate for the top braces. quick and slick.keeps weight down too. they also added a triangle shaped plate inside the neck.
i have since added more plate around the front of the neck and tube braces to tie the downtubes to the cross tubes. i also tide the tubes together with a plate over the tubes under the back of the tank.

Tri is this yours? can u post another pic from an angle that shows behind the motor area.
this is a particularly good photo because its silver it shows a lot more detail than usual.
this is a good pic for others to save as a good example of maw kaws frame changes?upgrades.
notice that the tubes that tie the back brace tubes together are much smaller od than the tubes themselves. u can get away with much smaller material when the tube is short rather than long. saves weight too.

Less can u post another pic and highlight the area Leon is talking about ? i cant make it out with the black paint. i wasnt aware of this update by Ma Kaw.
i flatend my frame just like Leon said. 1 advantage of this meathod is that it is a lot less work. if u channel it, just make sure the channel very long, up and down to acount for the chain slapping up and down so much.i actualy run a roller on the inside of my motor mount . the chain hits the roller instead of sawing into the alum. mounts.

nope i stole it off google images for a reference...

here is where mine is hidden!!!!!

and it is making me sick...i cant even get to it to spin the crank once a month...argh..it's next...MKII is close to done then this one...

Hey Banshee i like what mark said about a small pipe to save room...i am thinking at least as wide as the contact point of the big tube what dia and type of steel are you working with now....i am thinking my kz 900 set wou ld get radius shaped on a round edged grinding stone wheel so i could also grind the back cuts where it rest angle to angle...like a rafter cut ect...
