Besides the price of the shock mounts you have two other problems. 1) you must pay someone to TIG weld them on. 2) the process anneals the Aluminum and the entire unit must be sent for hardening again.

the 1150 arm will fit in the frame no problem the only problem is with the shock mounts the swingarm is fairly narrow right where you want to put the mounts so you would have to do some serious beefing up in that area but you could make it work. on one of my bikes i took and early zx-7 swingarm and cut the mounts for the single shock linkage and re attached them to the upper part of the swingarm and used them for shock mounts. it worked fantastic some people have said you have to reheat treat after doing this kind of thing ididn't and have had absolutely no probs with this swing arm every by the way it was a straight bolt after redoing the mounts and this swing arm gained me 2 extra inchs of wheelbase in the process one problem with it was the adjusters are eccentrics so when i adusted the chain i also had to adjust the wheelie bar heights as well but i delt with iton the whole i was quite happy with it.

Guys i just bought this and was wondering if this is the right swing arm everyone is using? 1984 GS 1150 EF

 Is this about adapting a uni-shock swingarm to a dual shock swingarm, or about converting a dual shock rear suspension to a uni-shock rear suspension, or neither of the above, or what?

Edit -- Now clearer after re-reading timebomb's post that 1150 arm will fit in the frame, and possibility of removing the lower uni-shock mounts and re-using them as upper dual shock mounts after reinforcing the shock mount areas. :)

Seems the alternate swingarm choice suggested by otakar would be the easier application and avoid the cutting and welding.

Good Luck! :)
