Hpw many here noticed that DynaS sold new about 3-6 years ago had much higher failure rate, It seems Dyna has since fixed the problem, but it is hard to have confidence in the new ones. How many miles have guys got on ones bought in the last six years? I only trust the really old ones now. These old ones seem like they will last forever.

Got a new one on the Alloy Cafe i built 5 years ago which i use most days with no problems so far and running another two for 20 and 11 years respectively trouble free.
With the volume they produce there's always going to be a few that fail and you will always hear of complaints of those that go wrong but hardly ever of the countless others that work as they should except in threads like this..

DOHC, exactly the reason Im interested in the rev limiter. Not only have I found neutral between 1 and 2, but once I was lucky enough to find that hidden natural between 4 and 5, embracing but so far lucky no damage. If a few buck will save me from a bent valve or beat up piston its worth it.

Well, I think Dyna did have a real problem for a few years there. I personally witnessed three different units fail that were purchased during this rough time period...2 for Harley sportster and one on my kz650, in addition to several internet reports. But I have 3 very old (at least 10 years) units that just never miss, 2 for Kawasaki and one for Honda cb750 (not sure but think cb750 and Kawasaki might use the same unit?)

I have 3 Dyna S setups. One is about 5 years old, the second is about 3 and the third is new this year. No issues other than with the hot wire connector.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Three things I've learned using the Dyna 2000. One is you can't time it with a light accurately. The mark jumps all over the place. Dyna support says it's normal. Static time only.

Another is the instructions state use timing curve #5 (full advance at 6500 rpm) for a high compression 2 valve engine, but use #4 (full advance at 3500 rpm) for stock 2 valve even if you're running 10.5:1 pistons. Much better performance for street riding. Also confirmed by Dyna support.

Last but not least, had an intermittent no spark on start up condition that kicked my ass. Tried everything including a relay for 12 volts direct to coils and module. Finally ended up buying a new module to fix the problem. The problem was there from day one with the system fresh out of the box.

The lower rpm advanced makes sense. The factory full advance is about 2450 if I recall correct.

Maybe they saw an advantage in a drag race, and/or they were talking higher compression than 10.5:1. But for us street people, use #4.
