Turn signals for dummies was created by Trackerkz650sr
Hi guys so basically im trying to install turn signals and have a not stock wiring harness.

I want to know if my wiring is f'd or it sounds like a faulty flasher

-Flasher 2 prong-
One prong to battery
One prong to the turn switch

-Turn switch-
Power going to switch (from flasher)
Two leads one to each side turn signal

I can get power to the correct sides
However using my test light it wasnt flashing
Just stayed steady

So my question is
Do i have the flasher installed incorrectly?
I switched the wires around on it thinking maybe it had polarity but same thing

Do all the turn bulbs need to be hooked up for it to flash? Like a load type issue

I was using my test light for testing purposes and wonder if that is giving a inaccurate view on things

Thanks fellas!!

I think you have to have all of the turn signals connected with bulbs installed. Additionally, sometimes modern bulbs don't work right with the old flasher, but the fix is to get an electronic flasher from the auto parts store >> they should have a heavy duty unit that's almost identical to the stock flashers. I know autozone & probably other places have Novita flashers. made in USA.

Here's a couple I linked in a topic from a while ago. Another one to consider is the yellow Novita LF12.
Novita Turn Signal Flasher. Tridon® EL12. Electro-mechanical flasher.

Novita Hazard Warning Flasher. Tridon® LL552®. Made in USA.

U rock my guy. I am using leds. Ill grab a new relay. Does it matter if its 2 or 3 pin?

You can use either, typically the third pin is for a common dash light i.e. one turn signal indicator on dash or gauge. Make sure you get an LED compatible flasher. The older ones require a specific current draw to flash which is why you are not seeing that with your test light. They will state no minimum load or for LED use.

Back again. So i hooked up all the bulbs etc
And bought an electronic flasher

It puts power to the correct side when i use the switch as it should

However it is not flashing
Even tried reversing the leads on the flasher and same thing

Do i need a led specific flasher
Or do i need a 4 pin relay wired in with the flasher?

Little confused as everything is hooked up correctly it appears

Also went back to the stock metal kz flasher with the same result

Do i need a 3 pin flasher for leds?

Yes if you are using all LED's you need to use an electronic flasher for LEDs' LED's use very little amperage therefore "standard" or "electronic replacement" flashers for the mechanical flashers will not detect the load therefore they will not flash. I looked up the one you purchased and that won't work for all LED. I'm not sure the ones Martin listed will work as they don list the minimum load required and only state that they work for " incandescent bulbs or a mixture with LEDs." Sounds like it requires some standard bulbs for the load.

You don;t need a three pin unless you want to use that third connection for a single dash light. Your wiring seems correct from your description (I hope you have a fuse between battery and flasher!)

The one I linked earlier would work. I looked at Advance Auto and Autozone websites ,looks like they don't carry them in my area. Try some local parts shops or places that customize trucks etc. otherwise you'd have to order.

So fellas i went and got a proper electronic flasher 3 pin
It was a el35 i believe (35 something or other)
Said it worked with leds
Hooked it up and nothing

So my question is
Have any of u done both front and rear led turns ?
If so what worked for u

Im going to do 1 of 3 things next

1. Buy a cheap standard el552 or whatever and use a load resistor

2.buy a universal led flasher off amazon and pray it works

3. Be simple and work the switch back and forth using myself as the flasher (dont wanna but aw hell lol )

Any more ideas?

Some of the three pin ones require ground, can you get a pic of the side if there is a schematic printed on it?

Load resistors work but it defeats the point of going to LEDs IMHO

Here are some notes on old flasher units. It shows why the 3-prong needs a ground.
The Wagner 7060 was the go-to flasher for LEDs, but I don't think Wagner makes them anymore. Tyco, or some other Chinese company probably has an equivalent or even identical model now.
