Need a MODERN KZ rectifier was created by 650Dude
I recently upgraded my 77 KZ750 Twin with a lithium IRON PHOSPHATE battery. Ive been told that this could cause charging issues due to the old, stock rectifier.

Can anyone recommend an updated PLUG N PLAY easy peasy install MODERN rectifier?

Thanks!

Steve, This link contains videos (which I cant watch because Im in the office) and a link to a stator.

Its not very useful as it says one or two words about a Rectifier and isnt clear.
Might you simply have a link to the rectifier?

Another possible option. If your bike can use a voltage regulator from an 81 650-CSR, then you could use one from a Ninja 250/500 or Vulcan 500 to around 2009 or thereabouts. I installed one from a low mileage 2007 EX500. the connector was reversed, so I had to install new terminal pins & a new connector. There may be new oem-type voltage regulators that are a direct fit for my bike, but the Ninja r/r was cheap. around $25T shipped.

Thanks! I think I want to go with a simple plug and play like the one in the link below, to avoid any issues:

The one showing is a two yellow stator wire. (single phase) If that's what you have it might work. If yours has three yellow wires it won't. I'd be leary buying aftermarket. Some are knockoffs made in CHINA. That's why I posted my thread. I got two. One shorted and made an ungodly noise and the other burned out my stator.

My bike has a 3-phase alternator (3 yellow wires from the stator). I think the voltage regulator you linked is single phase (2 yellow wires). I don't know if there are any modern voltage regulators for single phase. never checked. I'm guessing maybe some smaller models???

Martin, this is the battery I bought. Do you think its OK to run with the OEM setup? I rode the bike to the office today and its seemed fine:

I had to weed through the knockoffs and find a genuine Mosfet SH 775. It's marked on the rear of the unit. The ones I'm looking at don't have that view. Ed posted a few he found that were used and I bought two of them. How many yellow wires do you have? With your brand new battery I would only go with the REAL Mccoy.

I see nothing special about that battery which would mandate changing the stock charging system.

BTW, your title and first post mentions a rectifier, not a combined regulator/rectifier unit. You gotta be specific if looking for "plug and play." What type of generator your bike has can be critical as well since KZ bikes used a few different types. Some have a field coil and others only two phases of AC output from the generator. Details matter when it comes to this sort of stuff.

For a permanent magnet three phase charging system the best R/R units are the SERIES type. I've posted so many times about this I sound like a broken record (to myself anyway). Find a real deal SH775 and install it. A simple swap that will improve your charging system to better than new.
