I'd get them from Z1e if I could. I like solid wires and non resistor caps.

Throw a 1 ohm ballast resistor in series with the coil.

The metal-core Dyna plug wires come with non-resistor caps already built in, which I prefer along with standard B8ES non-R spark plugs, for zero resistance in the secondary loop, and which does introduce noise in radio reception (if that's a concern).

Patton, we have very strict laws on radio/ TV reception (although you wouldn't think so with some bikes that go past) so we have to have resistive loads for suppression. I might stick with the caps and solid wire for now
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Re: Dyna S ignition Question
15 May 2016 19:43Nessism, some times I feel like an idiot and don't see the obvious, you are correct I could use a ballast resistor. I just bit that bullet I was talking about and ordered a set of 3ohm Dyna coils. I just wish I had the brain switched ON before I did that.Nessism wrote:Bozo wrote:The coils I have currently are standard GPZ1100 which measure 2.6ohm on primaryswest wrote: You can buy one pickup from Dyna. As likely already known, don't combine both resistor plug wires and resistor plug caps, as the combination creates too much resistance in the secondary loop, which results in a much weakened spark.
Only mentioned because of vaguely recalling some reference to carbon plug wires in an earlier post.

Be proud of yourself for doing it the RIGHT way

But will confess to having lucked out when the squadron of black helicopters was hovering overhead and would have probably caught me red-handed with my zero resistance secondary loops, until they had to back off because all their sensitive electrics somehow went haywire. :woohoo:

Re: Dyna S ignition Question
15 May 2016 21:20I did mention that my Z1R has carbon / resistive leads and the GPZ has resistive caps, I don't use both systems together.Patton wrote:Bozo wrote: . . . I might stick with the caps and solid wire for now
