Dyna S ignition Question
15 May 2016 16:07
On the weekend my hybrid GPZ1100 I was putting together from scratch decided to run on two cylinders  . I checked the coils and the obvious one showed smelly 0.3ohms (other was 2.6ohm) on the Primary. I replaced the coil and it still ran bad so I checked my fairly new Dyna S (new spare from my Z1R) pickups and one read around 3Mohm (red to black disconnected from the coils) and the other showed 0.5Kohm. I did rotate the motor a bit to ensure the pickup was not activated.
My question is - can I use the Dyna S on standard GPZ1100 (1981) coils?. I am on a budget so a A$300 plus dyna coil set is at this stage out of the Question. I don't want to buy a replacement set of pickups to find I'll blow them again. My new set lasted only 300Km so I assume my old coil caused the pickup to go when it shorted.

They're made for 3 OHM and up. 1.5 will burn the pickups.

Steve, I figured as much as to why I blew the ignition. At this stage my plan would be to bite the bullet (might have to when the other half gets the news) and buy both the ignition and new dyna 3ohm coils rather than risk using the old coils again. So much for the budget its blown out to double my initial estimate.

You can buy one pickup from Dyna. All you have are 1.5 OHM coils?

I called Dyna directly. They sent me a new rotor for $25. Good people.

That means they'll pull too much juice.

I checked ebay when I got the prices, obviously ebay is not always a good deal. They did have a new set of DC1-1 3ohm coils for around US$130 with a reasonable delivery cost of US$10 to Oz.
Other dealers are selling the coils with leads for around A$366 plus delivery???? makes no sense - are the leads that expensive?
On another topic when my coil gave up I had Copper (HT) leads with Lucas resistive caps, I don't know if using this is ok. On my Z1R I use carbon leads, and they work great but for some reason decide on a different combination for the GPZ - ANY Opinions which is better for the GPZ?
