Retrofitting self cancelling signals to KZ750R
14 May 2016 11:02
Looking for guidance since electrical and wiring are my weakest points.
I have a '82 GPz750/KZ750R1 that had a bad speedo on it when I bought it. Naturally, I immediately went onto ebay and bought the best deal I could find on what looked like it could fit. It just happened to be a cluster from the UK off a GT750/K750P(3?). It didn't even dawn on me that it went up to 150 mph instead of just 85 until i posted a pic of it on the project thread when it arrived. I thought that was a pretty cool bonus.
There was another difference, there are 2 wires that come out the back of the speedo that the original didn't and i quickly learned the were for the self canceling turn signals. I'm guessing there is a sender that interacts with odometer that shuts off the signals after a certain distance. Helpful for those of us that are more worried about making a glorious perfectly apex-ed corner or dodging trucks on the freeway than to be bothered to turn off our blinkers after we've turned them on.
I now am soon to have in my possession a self cancelling unit from a '83 KZ750 LTD, I downloaded the wiring diagram out of the filebase of the Z750P3 and already have the KZ750R diagram but I think I might need some help. I also looked at the KZ750H1 but they all look different from each other. The biggest difference looks like the absence of the reserve lighting devise and flashers on the P. I noticed the reserve warning light was missing on the cluster a few weeks back. It also looks like my flasher has been deleted by a PO somehow and I wouldn't mind having it back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm planning to do some other electrical retrofitting in the near future so if I could get this done at the same time it would be great.
