No pickup transforms. Just points and a condenser.

Steve,
It seems to be running just fine. So I'm not inclined to worry about it. I'm pretty sure it's done this as long as I've had the bike. I remember seeing it arc when I had the points cover off before.

I think the condenser just happened to fail while the bike was parked for a couple weeks. By the time I got it replaced the bike had been sitting for almost six weeks and was just being a bear to get started again.

Now that the new points and condenser are in it's running strong again. So I'm inclined to ignore the arcing across the points.

I've noticed some sparks in the past. Couldn't see them unless it's dark. If there's fireworks, then the bike won't run for SHT.
Have a good ride. B)

So I'm inclined to ignore the arcing across the points.

Even if it runs good now, I think your points faces will get pitted quickly, like putting a mini arc welder on them 50 times a second.

when you mount the plate , you have to be very careful to insulate the pickup transformers from any possible grounding
Check your plate mounting you can use a piece cardboard to test the theory..
Just use a cereal box and scissors and cut an Insulator to put behind the plate !

This sounds all wrong to me, the later transistorised ignition pick ups are insulated anyway.
