Stereo System? was created by 79MKII
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNot sure if this is the right area to post but not sure where else it fits...

Anyway, has anybody ever tried to get a decent stereo system on their KZ? I'd like a nice one that's small and doesn't require a fairing. I see a lot of this style around now (see below) but don't know if they're any good. Anybody ever tried one of these? Or any other ideas? Thanks

Instead of external speakers and control head. How about a small set of either speakers or ear pieces inside your helmet? Then you can use any newer mobile phone with blue tooth to use it as a player, or using some of the Scala rider devices you can even use the phone, communicate with other riders. We bought a couple of the cheap chinese knock offs to test them last year. They worked great for bike to bike communication, in a line of sight up to 100 meters or so. They would quit in the turns, and if out of range long enough, they would need to be reset with the second unit/ paring. Overall 2 for about $110 wasn't bad, considering the Scala Rider stuff is about $250 per unit.

I've been looking at those units too. There are some helmets with blue tooth built in and I like the external systems too. I stream radio stations all the time with my phone so it would be great. Just a little apprehensive since I don't know how well they really work. I'm glad to hear your report...that's the first information I've heard on them first hand. Were you able to actually take calls with those?

The real danger is that the ambient noise from wind and all sounds is so high that when you turn the music up load enough to "hear it", you are really at a dangerous level..... I experimented with it back in the day and built some pretty good small speakers into a helmet with some sound padding but the music really had to be loud to get over the noise.

Personal preference, but I would be concerned about isolating myself to that extent from the road...certainly better audio fidelity with earbuds/helmet speakers, but I try to use ALL my senses when riding to stay in one piece! FYI: don't try to change a cassette (I know, dinosaur, LOL!) at highway speeds, the road wind will strip every inch of tape outta the cassette in a 100 ft festoon!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationnaturally stereos are a pretty big deal in the bagger world.
so there is alot of nice hardware out there and some of it is actually affordable  .
a set of these mounted on your bars will be plenty for normal listening,

or if you would like to be annoying at stop lights :P .
you can use a smartphone or mp3 player as the input.

That system looks like pretty good quality for such a cheap price.

I wear Ink'd ear buds by Skullkandy with my iPod when I rise. I keep it at a moderate volume and I have no problem hearing everything around me.
As a backup, my smartphone also has an MP3 library on it that I can also use.
