I worked on this today when I got home. Checked the carbs and they all had fuel in the bowls. Checked the fuel level with the clear tubs and the #1 carb was a little high, but the other 3 were good. Sprayed electronic cleaner in the 4 or 5 connectors in the head light and under the tank. Checked the Dyna electronic and the wires had been up against the header and had burned the outer coating. I checked the wires and they were not burned. While putting that back together, I noticed the the wire from the electronic ignition to the left side coil was broken. Fixed that and then replaced all four spark plugs and the bike started up but wasnt running right. #2 and 3 pipes not hot. Set the timing and will check tomorrow to see how it runs. Hopefully everything is good now.

I thought you had spark on all 4 plugs?
Here is the Dyna S trouble shooting link: www.dynaonline.com/skins/downloads/instruct/DynaSTSG.pdf

The two Dyna pickup modules are located underneath the "points cover."

Left side Dyna pickup module sends signals (via a wire) to whichever ignition coil is connected to the outside spark plug wires #1 and #4.
The ignition system for #1 and #4 is now apparently functioning.

But with #2 and #3 pipes not hot, the ignition system for inside spark plugs #2 and #4 is still not functioning.
Right side Dyna pickup module signals (via another wire) whichever ignition coil is connected to the inside spark plug wires #2 and #3.
Perhaps the wire from the right side Dyna pickup module is failing for whatever reason (for example, being internally broken ??) to signal whichever ignition coil is connected to the inside spark plug wires #2 and #3.

Here's how it's supposed to work.

There's a small magnet embedded inside the Dyna rotor fitted onto the end of the crankshaft underneath the "points cover."

The wire from the ignition coil provides a ground through the Dyna module.

When the magnet passes the module, the ignition coil becomes ungrounded, which is the event that causes the ignition coil to "fire" through the two spark plug wires and spark plugs.

Good Fortune! :)

You can still have spark with a bad coil, just weak. Check with an ohm meter to be sure. I had a coil that was good....sat for 2 months, then was bad. Made spark, just didnt run. Swapped coils, fired right up.

I will be checking the voltage to the coil and the wires from the electronic ignition to the coils this evening. I did have spark to all 4 plugs. I was checking the wiring to the electronic ignition and saw where the wire at one time had been in contact with the header, but I think it only melted the outer coating, not the actual wires, but I will check them this evening also.

we have a winner

if it ran...and you worked on stuff and it dont run no mo.....then a wire is crossed or jiggled loose...if you have spark and you have gas...then you have fire...if the headlight is out and the fuse box had been blowing..then you have something touching a wire or connector...when you find that...you will be free

Kidkawie wrote: Sounds like you disturbed one of the grounds or connections. Remove the tank and healight, unplug every bulk connector and spray with WD, then re connect them. Do the same thing to the ones under the side panel. You want big blue spark, not faint orange.

i have had little wires make me think my bike was done for,#1 problem i've found, wire for me was the white or white with red stripe under the side cover by the plug ins panel, #2 in the headlight three prong back plug,or from the handle bar controls to inside the head light...#3 a coil connection to the harness/dyna that is broken or pulled apart inside a wire cover...at the coil...that took me a day or two and a few breaks and think it overs....before i found it....when you do find it ...one touch of the button and the bike will start...no iginiton or stator or siezed motor... :) ...just a simple elec tape or plug in push...and it will start right up....

I came home today and started checking this. Checked the voltage to the coils and they were good. Checked timing again and it was good. Took the carbs off and checked all of the jets and they were good. While the carbs and tank was off, looked again for loose/broken/exposed wires, but did not find any. PUt the tank back on and the bike fired right up. Pops a little, but I think that can be corrected. Will try working on it again tomorrow.

Normally I do turn the gas off, but forgot to that time. I double checked it today to make sure it was turned off. Nice to hear it run again. Thanks for all the help from everyone.
