The bike won't start
02 Oct 2012 13:19 - 03 Oct 2012 04:24
When I bought my bike for a week ago it came with pod-filters. The engine backfired a lot (but when I ran with choke it was a lot less backfiring) and lacked som power. So yesterday I bought a original air box thinking that this would solve the problem, but it only made it worse. After the installation of the original air box, the bike won't start. All I can hear now is just "clunc clunc clunc poff poff clunc clunc POOP!!" (Clunc being the starter, poff being som weird small sound and POOP being a very loud backfire).
Ive checked #1 and #4 spark plugs, which was fouled (most likely from yesterday when I rode around with the pod-filters and choke). So Im thinking it must either be the spark plugs or valve-adjustment. Can someone verify this? Is valve-adjustment a mechanics job? If someone will be kind enough to make a video on how to adjust the valves I would actually PAY THEM!

Alright.. New problem with the bike!
The bike had POD-filters when I bought it. It backfired and only ran with choke. So today I bought a new standard airbox, which I replaced with the POD-filters. Now the bike wont start, and only backfires.. Poff-Poff-POOP!! (POOP being a HUGE backfire sounding like someone shot a rifle inside).
I would think that it gets both fuel and spark since it backfires? Any suggestions to what I can check?

Take another bad picture of the problem so we can properly diagnose it.

Sounds like your jetting in the carbs. I'd tear your carbs down and clean em up real good and check the sizes of the jets in them. If they were running pod filters before the previous owner may have put bigger jets in them to account for the more air coming in. Anther thing to check if you haven't already done it, make sure you're vacuum lines are hooked up correctly on the carbs. Do you still have the pod filters??

When you installed the airbox did you install a filter inside it? Ed
