This is a run on from another thread which was getting off subject so it was suggested i start a new thread. I didn't even knoe you could convert my bike to an electronic ignition. What are it's advantages besides less adjustment & wear on the points?, does it give a better spark & run better?

Motor Head very kindly pointed me in the direction of some relevant historical threads, the parts seem hard to find as mentioned in the threads, besides not knowing what im really looking for some of the items seem to be fetching a good price, so the link under this quote might be a better option.

Here is some KZR threads for you to read.

I then came across this on the Twins Owners Forum & it seems quite good. I was wondering which would be the better setup?

This also seems to have an electronic Tacho output, i'll be needing that too as im replacing my clocks.

Thank you for all your help so far guys.

With a points system, every single time the points open there is a small arc of electricity that pits the contacts and subtly alters spark timing and begins to wear the contacts, the follower or rubbing block also wears with every single revolution. As the points age, the spring can begin to loose tension, increasing the possibility of point float at high rpm. The condenser also becomes slightly less efficient each time it discharges. Even in the most high quality points, there is a bit of slop even when new. Put this all together and you have a situation in which the spark timing and duration are a tiny bit unstable and constantly deteriorating. This assumes that they were set up perfectly to begin with.
The electronic ignition eliminates these weakneses and will provide consistent spark for many years and thousand of miles.
The strength of the spark is largely determined by the battery and coil(s), but is also affected by the secondary wiring and spark plugs.

Thanks Motor Head, seller of the 1st item only ships to USA though & the shipping of the next 2 items comes in at nearly $50, not that i mind to be honest, but you can see how when shipping is added it nearly comes to the price of the system on the twins forum.

Yes I gathered that, and I'm still looking. Posted it all for comment from the other members, maybe like that won't work, or hey I got one. Who knows. If you were to buy in pieces like that off of Feebay, have it shipped to a central person, then to you in one box. Someone you could trust to do it for you. If you did get to a point like that I could do it for you. I'm in Colorado, nearly dead center of the USA.

The city of Denver is called the "Mile High City" due to the elevation. When the USAF had Lowry AFB outside of Denver open, I went there during 1966 for a aircraft weapons mechanic school, and every weekend off, took trips up into the mountains. Beautiful area then, but I've not been back since.

Back on topic, I can't see why the Popular Dyna System couldn't be made to work. You could run it on just one pick-up coil, as some of you have done on your 4cyl bikes!
