Man, if coils are that expensive over there, then that will weigh heavy on the decision. I believe he said coils are included in that all-in-one kit.
If points and condenser will add up to more than £25 to £50, then it may not be worth the effort to get the points working.
I would hope that an aftermarket tachometer for a motorcycle should be able to get a signal from the primary side of the coil. That is pretty standard.
Sometimes a Dyna S will not work correctly with some tachs. That is because the dwell is very long and the tach will see that as no-spark, so it won't register a signal.

04 Oct 2011 03:58 - 04 Oct 2011 06:32Yes, good old rip off Britain is still on £ (pounds), not a bad thing with the way the € zone is going though! I've attached a copy of the clock wiring for you to see, seems straight forward enough & its an all in 1 unit (*Edit*- i cant seem to add .pdf files here) . Tacho, speedo & some warning/signal lights are there too.Motor Head wrote: By Clock, do you mean Tachometer? If so it should have a pick-up point on the Negative side of the Ignition coil, which ever system is used.
Offer still stands, if you organize some stuff, you want from the USA. I can compile and ship in One box, to save you a couple of, what Pounds? You use Pounds or Euro's?
Thank you again for your kind offer, i'll see how things unfold.
Yup, its quite expensive to live here! :lol:loudhvx wrote: Man, if coils are that expensive over there, then that will weigh heavy on the decision. I believe he said coils are included in that all-in-one kit.

The last thing i want to do is come across like a spoilt child that needs to get shot of some money. I've been planning this project for about 18 months now though as the bikes are as scarce as the parts i needed to wait to the right one came up, or the only one!, so i do have a little money set aside for it (about £1500 so i need to spend wisely). I wasn't waiting on someone to say go get the most expensive IG system cos its better, sometimes that aint the case.
That #5 seems to be a complete kit & if im not mistaken new HT leads are supplied too.

04 Oct 2011 04:23 - 04 Oct 2011 04:24Problem is if you use the old coil, it's a 30 year old coil. :ohmy:750steve wrote: Number 1 it is then!
Highly recommend a new one.

Ok, so i bought a point & condensor today along with a couple of other bits. That should tie me over until i get enough gathered up to buy the Optical CDI kit. I figured that right now i've enough to spend!
Frame powdercoat, fabricated alu battery box, shorai battery, instrument clock, maybe rearsets, exhaust cans, headlight, tail/stop light, make a seat unit, lengthen the swingarm. Alot to do!

Sounds like a plan. Good luck with the project. It's quite a list you have there. Should be a great bike when you're done.

I've never seen an exhaust like the one in the picture. Custom?
