My turn signals come on as soon as I hit the switch.
When I pull the 4 way flash, it takes a few seconds for the flasher to work

so it is to tell when a bulb is out...my(900/same bike) rear brake light/tail light/ has a deal where if the bulb burns a part of/bulb it will flash in the idiot lights while your driving to let me know i'm riding with no/less/lights.....

why would it be blaring..does it stop when the bike is started..like to let you know it is working before a ride ect??

if so then folks musta removed em like a open door chime gets unplugged some times...

my guess

As so elegantly put by Dave Marsden when describing the 1976 KZ900 models ---

THE OTHER ITEM WAS AN AUDIBLE INDICATOR SYSTEM. THIS CONSISTED OF A SMALL ELECTRICAL BUZZER BOLTED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADLAMP SHELL. WHEN EITHER OF THE INDICATORS WAS USED THE BUZZER OMITTED A BUZZING NOISE, NOT UNLIKE THE NOISE FROM A PELICAN CROSSING. WHEN RAIN ENTERED THE BUZZER, WHICH GIVEN THE ENGLISH WEATHER, WAS FREQUENTLY, THE NOISE TURNED TO ONE THAT A STRANGLED CAT MAY MAKE !!. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE BUZZERS WERE QUICKLY REMOVED BY OWNERS AND DEALERS. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT BLIND PEOPLE MAY HAVE CONFUSED THEM WITH THE NOISE FROM PELICAN CROSSINGS, CAUSING CONCERN TO MANY.

Years ago, automotive turn signal beepers were available in several different tunes, including segments from Elvis Presley. A must-have automobile accessory at the time, which complimented the obligatory red fingernail polish painted on interior dash lights.

Good Fortune! :)

Your signals come on as soon as you hit the switch AFTER you removed the buzzer?

If I remember correctly (I didn't really use the 4-way flashers often) the 4-ways took awhile to blink.

I wound up pulling the flashers too.

Do the both of you that are discussing the delay from the time you flip on the turn signal to the time the lights blink both have your buzzer wired up?

I have a hunch you do; try disconnecting the buzzer (pull out out the headlight to get to the connection) then giving it a try, you should notice that your lights immediately blink when you flip your signals on. This is due to the large amount of current the buzzer draws (which is why it is known to occasionally goes up in smoke).

On or off. I have tried it both ways. Sorry to hijack.

Doesn't the flasher relay work on a bimetal strip? I always thought they just had to literally "heat up" like x-mas tree flasher lights do. Guess i'll have to do some research.

...a while later...

Yes, indeed they do. A strip of metal acting as a resistor, heats up, expands, makes contact. Upon making contact the resistance drops, it cools, contracts, and flips back opening the circuit, increasing resistance, and heating up again, over and over. So yeah, it makes sense that the first flash would be longer than the rest of them.

Very interesting...that would explain why it would happen when I have it blink the first direction but if I quickly flip it the other way there is no delay. I still think it's my wiring causing it as it never used to do it. Possibly too much resistance before it gets to the flashers causing a drop in voltage...going to tear into my remaining maintenance tasks tomorrow so I should be able to find out. Could even be just a bad contact somewhere.

If it were me, I'd carefully open up the left handlebar switch pod(watch out for flying springs and ball bearings)and then get some electrical contact cleaner. Spray and move the switch back and forth to clean it.

Do not use WD-40,brake cleaner or anything other than plastic safe electrical contact cleaner for this.

I use a brand called "De-Oxit" contact cleaner/preservative on my bike and home entertainment center patch cables.

It can be bought at Radio Shack Stores in the U.S.(a bit pricey as it sells for $15 for a two pack).

www.deoxit.com is their website.
