KZ 900 warning buzzer NOW WITH PHOTO'S

just picked up super nice 76 kz900. When you turn on blinkers the warning buzzer sounds off BEEB BEEB LOUD!!
Is this normal or something faulty. All lights horn hi/beam turn indicators work. However the four way hazzard lights,only the right work,no flashing on left side

now need some summer. Been long winter

Probably something the previous owner added. I don't believe Kawasaki had this feature on their bikes.

I had a 1977 Kz1000 and now own a 1982 GPz1100, neither have this beeper.

As for your 4 way flasher circuit, first check the bulbs, I think #1157 for the front turn signals/running lights and also at the rear for brake/running lights and #1156 for the rear turn signals.

There are two(2) silver colored flasher relays, one for the turn signals and the other for the 4 way hazard light circuit.

My Kz900 had it. Mounts below the headlight. I just disconnected it inside the headlight shell. Doesn't seem to affect flasher operation.

Bike Bandit schematic has it listed as "ALARM,TURN SIGNAL" and is part #32 on the Chassis Electrical schematic for the '76 900.

The hazards problem is likely unrelated to the buzzer. Mine is doing the same thing and i just haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it.

any idea's why the turn signals work properly but the when you turn on 4 way flashers only the right side work, seems odd
I'll trouble shoot it, just lookin for quick tip

The two circuits are independent, I believe. One of the flashers (if I remember correctly) is for left/right and the other is for 4-way. You'll have to dig into the wiring (as will I soon) with a multimeter to figure it out.

It is strange that we are both having the same identical issue.

Can you tell me, do you left/right flasher hesitate on the first flash longer than the others? That's the other weirdness I have. It takes too long for the first blink and then it is normal. Almost like it has to "charge up" for the first flash...but that doesn't make any sense. I thought about replacing the flashers with electric ones from the local farm store, but I'm lazy.

As so elegantly put by Dave Marsden when describing the 1976 KZ900 models ---

THE OTHER ITEM WAS AN AUDIBLE INDICATOR SYSTEM. THIS CONSISTED OF A SMALL ELECTRICAL BUZZER BOLTED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADLAMP SHELL. WHEN EITHER OF THE INDICATORS WAS USED THE BUZZER OMITTED A BUZZING NOISE, NOT UNLIKE THE NOISE FROM A PELICAN CROSSING. WHEN RAIN ENTERED THE BUZZER, WHICH GIVEN THE ENGLISH WEATHER, WAS FREQUENTLY, THE NOISE TURNED TO ONE THAT A STRANGLED CAT MAY MAKE !!. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE BUZZERS WERE QUICKLY REMOVED BY OWNERS AND DEALERS. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT BLIND PEOPLE MAY HAVE CONFUSED THEM WITH THE NOISE FROM PELICAN CROSSINGS, CAUSING CONCERN TO MANY.


Years ago, automotive turn signal beepers were available in several different tunes, including segments from Elvis Presley. A must-have automobile accessory at the time, which complimented the obligatory red fingernail polish painted on interior dash lights.

I noticed mine doing that just the other day. I just figured that it was a tired flasher. Somehow my rusty original flashers are still doing their thing. When they want to.

The 4-way flashers and turn signal beeper came stock on a 1976 KZ900. I just took mine off the other day, be careful, the turn signal buzzer is known to draw a LOT of current and I have on good account that they will eventually overheat and start smoking.

Unless you're planning on restoring it (in which case you'll be looking to get rid of your 28's and should let me know :P ) I highly recommend pulling the beeper off.

I'm assuming you mean the delayed flash. Mine is on brand new Emgo flashers from Z1E. And I have another new pair that do the same thing, so it's definitely in the wiring somewhere...

Do the both of you that are discussing the delay from the time you flip on the turn signal to the time the lights blink both have your buzzer wired up?

I have a hunch you do; try disconnecting the buzzer (pull out out the headlight to get to the connection) then giving it a try, you should notice that your lights immediately blink when you flip your signals on. This is due to the large amount of current the buzzer draws (which is why it is known to occasionally goes up in smoke).
