my brand new set that never got used in the box cost me 70 bucks...single dynas go for 20-40...

Considering the look/condition of that coil, and the importance of ignition. I would pick-up a "set" of coils.
If that bike is a 78/79, then it has points style ignition and you can use these:

Heres the link: Z1 Enterprises

They're not very expensive for coils, and will work just fine and save you headaches and guessing in the future.

If the bike ignition has benn modified (Dyna S, etc.), then you can still use these coils, but a better match would be a new set of Dyna coils, but they start @ $140.

Good luck.

PS. THE VERY FIRST THING you need is a good service manual before you buy anything else! Part of regular maintenence absolutely required for these machines is to remove the valve cover and check the valve-to shim gap on the cylinder head. There is a huge maintenence chapter that must be completed before attempting to move the bike into service.

If you already have a Dyna coil in the bike I would stay with that. They have about double the output voltage of the stock coils.
Edit
I found that Z1E has the single coil cheaper, even with the postage

Yeah, I got that price wrong... for a pair on Z1E its $126, but can be found eBay, small shops, etc. for less or individually.

Coils are the same.

The cover is on the bottom right side of your pic, the one with 2 screws/bolts and DOHC stamped on it.

Yup. That's a Dyna S, which explains why you have the green Dyna 3-ohm Coils.

As said... coils are the same when sold in pairs, or individually, no matter what side they're used on. You need the green Dyna 3 ohm coil, to match the other
