Hey Sandy,

Glad you & the wife are good to go... no serious injuries! ;)

When I read this one easy way came to mind.... Use a rear brake light "Pull" switch where the terminals for alarm kickstand down status are connected to your horn...

You could also terminate to a lamp, blinking LED, second sound device such as a freakin air horn....

Just a thought, should be easy to do....

Thanks Dave,no...no injuries at all, thank the good guy above.

I THINK I understand that diagram,but...(go with me on this one)what about when I have the bike parked(kick-stand down),and I need to key the ignition for whatever reason?
That's going to sound the horn, correct?
I DO like that idea though.B)

And kawickrice...the kick-stand was ALREADY down when I pulled out of the rest area. The spring is good also,so I can rule that out.It was totally my fault for not making SURE the stand was up before we pulled away, but hey...good point.B)

And Don...YOU ROCK BUDDY!!
Even the Warden howled at that!

And hey...what KZ models DID have a kick-stand switch,if any?
I seem to remember one model having the switch...KZ1300 maybe?

You can alwys put in a secondary switch on the handle bars for disabling the horn or this added switch in this case....

Or use logic gate control for turh table type operations... If this is active & this is active then allow horn to operate.... All in all, can it be done, well yes or just put in stronger kick stand springs or a secondary lock down lasp of sorts and ride like a bandshee...

Hmmmm..just had an even BETTER idea...

It's obviously rider fault,as there is no problem with the kick-stand OR the spring,right...so what about wiring up my seat with power from the coils,to ZAP my ass if the kickstand is down, with the engine running!

Seriously...

My biggest issue is forgetting to put the stand up before taking off,and I never START the bike until it's in the upright position(with me on it),and I'm ready to pull away.
So I need the "Reminder" when I go to start the bike, once I/We are on it and ready to go.

Maybe like the alarm where if you put the bike upright an alarm sounds. Make that a buzzer. Just use a mercury switch that you can switch off when you raise the side stand.

Can't go into details w/out being banded.....

Female saddle horn in the middle of your seat... That way when you sit on it, you'll get a sharp reminder of your kick stand.....

You could also use the coil mod, switch the Dyno AC volatge to it.... Hair raising experience, no?

How about this. kickstand down=no motor running

Two different ways to do it, simple with no relay, or using a relay.

You could also reverse it so the relay is energized when the kickstand is down(micro switch closed when stand it down). So if the relay fails the bike can most likely still be started.

If you do it that way make sure the micro switch/coil side of the relay is hooked to key-on power on not constant power straight from the battery, or it will slowly drain the battery as it sits with the stand down.

I thought kickstand switches use a signal from the Neutral light or Neutral switch to kill the ignition?
I'm not sure how to wire it, but if you can find a wiring diagram for a bike that uses one it should be easy to adapt over.
Glad you're ok and good luck with the mod.

Here is a diagram to interlock the kickstand switch with the neutral light and control ignition.

Neutral light on and kickstand down -> engine runs

Neutral light off and kickstand down -> engine won't run

Neutral light off and kickstand up -> engine runs

I set the kickstand switch to be open when the kickstand is up in order to have both relays unpowered during normal operation (neutral light off and kickstand up). You could do it the other way but I would worry about burning up the relay's coil like that.

If you used a mercury switch you would have your horn going off or your ignition cutting out whenever you hit a bump! :cheer:

If you read carefully I did say "that you can switch off". But thanks for the mental picture.
