Female saddle horn in the middle of your seat... That way when you sit on it, you'll get a sharp reminder of your kick stand.....
You could also use the coil mod, switch the Dyno AC volatge to it.... Hair raising experience, no?

Two different ways to do it, simple with no relay, or using a relay.
You could also reverse it so the relay is energized when the kickstand is down(micro switch closed when stand it down). So if the relay fails the bike can most likely still be started.
If you do it that way make sure the micro switch/coil side of the relay is hooked to key-on power on not constant power straight from the battery, or it will slowly drain the battery as it sits with the stand down.

I'm not sure how to wire it, but if you can find a wiring diagram for a bike that uses one it should be easy to adapt over.
Glad you're ok and good luck with the mod.

Neutral light on and kickstand down -> engine runs
Neutral light off and kickstand down -> engine won't run
Neutral light off and kickstand up -> engine runs
I set the kickstand switch to be open when the kickstand is up in order to have both relays unpowered during normal operation (neutral light off and kickstand up). You could do it the other way but I would worry about burning up the relay's coil like that.

Just use a mercury switch...
If you used a mercury switch you would have your horn going off or your ignition cutting out whenever you hit a bump!

If you read carefully I did say "that you can switch off". But thanks for the mental picture.

Train your wife to checK the kick stand being up for you... If it's still down, for she'll remember after what she just went through, she'll screech in your ear.....

Here's my entry:
Engine kills only if the stand is down and the bike is in gear. It can run all other times.
3 parts
One relay 330-070
One diode 1n4006 or 1n4007, or 1n4008.
One kickstand switch of some kind.

Lou and Jake,I really like your ideas, because it still lets you run the bike WITH the kick-stand DOWN,for testing purposes.A little more involved, but that will make a good winter project.
Where does a guy get those parts?(relay and diode)
I think my biggest hurdle will be the KS switch itself, and getting one mounted and operable...and making it look like it belongs.
Any ideas there?
I think this is a mod that everyone should do.
I didn't think it was that serious of an issue until we had our little mishap...seriously...scared the soil outta my undies.
It's weird...I had a vision of us being thrown from the bike and going over the barrier and into the trees, and then all of a sudden we came to a stop..."Whew...it's over...and we're ok".
And we were doing over 60mph when the KS first made contact to the pavement.I'll tell you guys,it's NOT a nice feeling, and it almost ruined our whole holiday.
Anyway...
I have a friend here who runs a bike bone-yard,and as soon as they are back from holidays I'll have a look at some of his bikes and see what i can come up with for a KS switch, and go from there.
Thanks again...great ideas!
Lou...send me your brain for a couple weeks???
