Got it, Patton, The Dyna instructions says to use 2500rpm and match the advance mark when using the strobe light. Thanks again.

EC2, it's running right! Good stuff. :woohoo:

This is how I timed mine. Be sure the mechanical advancer is set correctly and that it advances correctly. This is where I set and tested my adjustment to.

Best of success. :)

Just forget the 2500 rpm part of the instruction. And interpret the sentence as meaning the F mark on the advancer unit. Use normal idle rpm which is probably in the range of 1000-1200 rpm.

Imho, the good Dyna folks really should amend those confusing screwed-up misleading instructions.

Checking timing alignment of F mark is the same for points and Dyna-S. The ignition coil knows to fire when continuity of its primary winding is interrupted. And it simply doesn't know or care which type of ignition system is busily connecting and disconnecting such continuity.

Be certain about exactly which mark on the advancer unit is the F mark. Ignore the T mark and any other marks.

At idle rpm, the strobe light should show the F mark aligning with the fixed mark on the engine case.

When blipping the throttle, the strobe light should allow seeing the advancer unit move back and forth as it regulates the timing.

The advancer is factory designed to automatically time the spark where it's supposed to be at rpm's above idle speed. So obtaining alignment of the F mark at idle rpm is all that's necessary, as the automatic advancer unit will handle the timing function at rpm's above idle.

Here for reference is one example of the marks on an advancer unit.

Good Luck! :)

Thanks a bunch. It's really crystal clear now. I'll be riding as soon as the rain stops. Missing it.
