Re: XV600r CVK Carb Switch on KZ650
28 Oct 2025 15:06 - 28 Oct 2025 15:23Sorry for the buzz kill, bro. There are two different versions of pumpers; those just with the pump, and those also with a vacuum valve. These are the version that are more problematic. The version with only the pump are workable. The fluid path for the pump puts the bowl gasket, and pump nozzle sealing O-ring under more stress than ideal, but if you get them sealed well, you should be okay.VM24's are excellent carburetors. They are reliable and easy to tune. Parts are not too hard to find.
CV carbs are fine as well, but I wouldn't be going out of my way to remove VM's for CV's if you already have a clean set of VM's. The only thing I'd stay clear of are the VM's with the accelerator pump. Those are more trouble than they are worth.
Oh yay, lucky me, that's what I have.
Edit: looks like the actuator can just be disconnected, hopefully that eliminates any troubles from the pump if it isn't used?
BTW, since I sell O-ring kits, and sizes are critical, I tend to split hairs regarding things like the pump nozzle O-ring size. The O-ring fits down into a recess in the bowl gasket, however there is no standard for bowl gasket thickness, so what size O-ring to use is a bit of a guess. I've upsized those in my kits for this reason. Kind of a pain to deal with those pumps. The standard VM's are just fine, and don't need the added pump feature for the most part. They are in effect an emissions part; to cover a flat spot left behind by lean jetting.
This photo shows the pump carbs along with the vacuum valve.

Re: XV600r CVK Carb Switch on KZ650
28 Oct 2025 17:46I just went over my project back in 2020, and I don't mention what jets I used, so must have used what Pablo recomended. That's very cool, reassuring infact. Thanks for the pics. I should see a few parts showing up in the mail this week. Carbs will get an Ultrasonic cleaning first. Can I ask you your jetting. Is it around 45/115 ? PABLO started with 45/112 but then he moved to a 4into1 so I don't know if he changed the Main again. THANKS again
I am using a 4 into 1 exhaust.

Good timing for bad news, I just got the carbs off last night. Yep, they are the troublemakers. It appears that some people have replaced pumper bowls with non-pumper bowls but I don't see too many loose bowls floating around the internet so I may have to live with the pump. Sure not interested in spending hundreds for new/different carbs. I will think on it some but will probably just proceed, and will let you know if I need o-rings. I definitely don't have that critical one in the right size
