Throttle cables
31 Jul 2024 18:29
Does anyone have a source for the return throttle cable for the (2002) KZ1000P, part number 54012-0044, or possibly an alternative cable as the originals appear to no longer be available? I have been looking but have had no luck. Thanks in advance.

They speak, or at least list, with forked tongue. I ordered a bunch of parts and decals for this bike and they didn’t have any of it. It would be nice if their site just said that up front instead of wasting a couple of days waiting to find out tgey can’t get things. I’ve checked a number of other suppliers and they all say it’s no longer available. I tried Barnett but they never called me back. I might have to take a second shot at them. I was able to find the pull cable (from Niche) and it’s on the way. I hope it’s as stout as the OEM is. Thanks for the response.

Ok sorry with that. I have not worked on any Police machine and do not know if it requires something different from other non-police machines. Not sure if this will be of any help but I have been able to use the same cable on either push or pull for my 650.

I’ll give it a look and see if that’s a possibility. My cables are still intact and are definitely different on the carb ends, although they are the same length. Thanks.

My Z1A can use the same cable for push or pull (I do). Pretty sure all KZ1000's do, wouldn't be surprised if KZ1000P does also. When installing them, put the cable in the boss with the shorter height first.

The 94 KZP I'm working on has an adjustable pull cable at both ends but the return cable has only one at the throttle and the other slips into a solid boss. They aren't interchangeable.

I didn't check for availability, but I've had better luck at Ron Ayers

Are you sure that it’s not the return cable that has the adjuster on both ends? On my bike the pull cable 54012-0043 has the adjuster only at the handlebar and costs about $43. The return cable 54012-0044 has the two adjusters and costs $27 and is no longer available. I assumed it is a lighter cable for return and cheaper because of that. I’ll have to recheck to be sure now.
