I'm in the process of rebuilding the VM28's for my 78 z1r and noticed the felt o-rings on either side of the control shaft are all but gone. There isn't a part number but I imagine someone has found a source for replacing them.
Part number VM28/403.
They are the same for all VM four cylinder carb banks.
Buy from the link below or get some felt sheet and a couple of hole punches and make them yourself.

At the size posted on their website I can't see how they will fit. I think I will try to make them as you suggested.
  • 4.25mm outer diameter
  • 10mm inner diameter

????
The size of 14.25mm outer and 10mm inner is clearly quoted on their site and is correct.

Where do those felt orings go? I've pulled apart 4-6 sets of the 77-80 Kawasaki VM carbs and never found any felt rings. I don't see them in the Kawasaki diagrams, or the VM29 exploded diagram.

I'm not saying they aren't supposed to be there, I just never knew about then and don't know where they go.

Anyone have photos?

They go on the backplate .
Either side of the brass bushes for the throttle shaft.
There's six of them.
They are not usually highlighted on the carb schematics as they form part of the backplate assembly which if purchased would have come with them already fitted.

The felt o'rings are in the carb mounting frame. 6 required. Looks like a tobacco pipe cleaner is going to to the job.

I've used the felt seals from Nichecycle referenced by Zed1015 and they fit perfectly on the throttle shaft and also in the upper carb bodies for the slide linkages.

Call me thrifty but five bucks each plus shipping for the felt o'ring is a bit much.
Where would you use the felt o'rings in "upper carb bodies for the slide linkage"?

Sorry Vinsky, my boo-boo.  I was thinking of the plastic washer that goes next to the spring inside that metal cup on the linkage.  And it was only 4 months ago I had them apart !  Guess we can call that a "senior moment"  haha

JetsRus has then for $2.14 each. Still expensive, but less so...

Wife had these felt pads to put under nic-nacs so had to experiment.
Contact spray to hold it in place then a bit of WD40 on the punch. Works great.
