Yes, they are very soft and split at the mount tube joint. Especially so if you have stacks or pods due to carb bounce. Not so much if you still have the original air box as the carbs are supported on both side.
Remedy is to make a couple of straps that stop any bounce. Carbs 2 & 3 to cam cover bolts.

Yes, I also bought new aftermarket boots that was cracked after one season. Then I bought NOS boots that seems to be of a completely different quality. As commonly adviced on this forum, I use NOS Kawasaki after that

I think we in general save time on problems when we use NOS parts?

I've used Wemoto and TourMax pattern boots on a few of my Zed's with no problems of splitting or cracking even when unsupported.
My three main Zeds have had them on for 23 , 15 and 9 years respectively and they are still as good as the day i fitted them.

Rob, the aftermarket ones from zpower are very soft. Went through two sets in 8 months. Spoke to Phil about them and he sent me a set of oem half price.
On a 650 with stacks no additional support. Oem ones no problem in 3 years.

Its good to know that i'm not the only one that has had issues with the knock off cheap carb boots. The set i'm using lasted a little over a year. I was having issues with RPM's surging and not coming down. I went to take off one of the caps on the metal stems on the carb boots and the whole stem came with the cap. I checked the others and i can wiggle the stems around but they didn't pull out entirely.
ill make some brackets this time around.
@Daveo -- sorry, I didnt take any pictures. I just pulled em off the bike and tossed em in the trash.

We always apply a very light wipe of silicone grease on the vacuum port tube when we have caps off. The rubber caps take a set at the swell on the tubes that tend to hold them on, and they're under some vacuum anyway. We've been nervous sometimes at the force needed to pull caps off of the vacuum tubes that had been in place for a long time. Heat helps, especially if they're old & hard.

I use TourMax aftermarket as they are made in Japan. Never had any issues after longer term use either (11, 6 years)I've used Wemoto and TourMax pattern boots on a few of my Zed's with no problems of splitting or cracking even when unsupported.
