Push and Pull throttle cables

16 Feb 2023 08:23

hello kzriders,  Yes.Partzilla.com confirms the two throttle cables.  A Push and a pull cable.
Id'd. with different part Numbers.
www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/motor...2/cables-77-78-b1-b2
I cannot seem to locate the push cable ( to close the carbs\ throttle).
I have located the pull cable ( aka =open) at eBay -Motion Pro.
Just wondering if they are the same cable ( ie ,Length and type)  and just buy two "pull -open "cables?
or Are they different cables and available somewhere else besides eBay ?

This is almost as disappointing as the Superbowl halftime experience. Lol.

Just wondering if they are the same cable

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the only difference is the adjustment at the carb for the push cable is a bit shorter than the one for the pull cable.

They are different. The curved tube at the bars is a different angle. If you have 2 the same you won't be able to screw them in the housing as they'll hit each other.
Zpower in the uk supply them as a pair. So would think z1e would also.

Call Motion Pro directly. They can & do make cables for anything.

Why do that call it push-pull, when cables can't push?

I've had that argument before. The throttle cables are pull/pull, one pulls it open and one pulls it closed.

The two throttle cables appear to be identical at the throttle.  Here is mine below.  Partzilla shows the 2 cables with the same bend on their website.
Gonna punt and just order 2 of the same.
We'll note: A company called Niche at Ebay sells push pull sets for other Kaw bikes. 1980,etc., kz550.etc. The set is exactly the same length and style for the pair.
Bullseye.

The front cable in the picture has less of a curve on it to allow screwing it in otherwise it will hit the back cable when you rotate it.
Original cables on my owned since new b1

Thanks Warren3200GT,  Gonna source the other "pull" cable.
Meaning the 2nd different pull cable that "closes".
From your picture,  Do you recall which of your pull cables is for " open "?    The  Front or back cable ?

Other,  We'll look @ Z1e and possibly chat with Motion Pro about their kz cable inventory.

I believe the front is " open" and the rear is "close" this seems to make sense if you think about the rotation of the twist grip

Update : I emailed a MotionPro dealer called Darlhorsemotorcycleparts (ebay ) and asked about the push, pull cable options for the 78 kaw ltd.
He wrote :Good morning,
According to Motion Pro the 03-0019 can be used as the push cable or pull cable so you will just need to get 2 of them and you should be good to go. Kawasaki is the only manufacturer that I'm aware of that uses the same cable for push and pull and they did it on many of the KZ models in the '70's.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else.
Thanks, Thom

I had read that info somewhere too.  I'm still learning and hope to share what I had discovered if it helps guide or assist someone later.   Just reporting what I encountered over the weekend.  Peace.
Other : Z1parts identifies there throttle cables as push ,pull if that helps too.
