Re: Choke Plungers Failing ?
15 Aug 2022 00:14There is an 'O' ring that sits under the nut and a dust cap that goes on top. Thanks for the reply Zed even though it wasnt what I was hoping to hear.
Lots more work than I had hoped plus cost of new airbox rubbers as the current ones are pretty solid and struggled to fit them back on again a few years back.
Is there any other rubber seal on the choke plunger assys apart from on the tip (o ring inside the recess etc) ?
Also is there a rubber boot that sits over the top?

Apologies for keep picking your brains Zed but once the carbs are taken off the rack does that involve extra setting up or do they locate back precisely.
Ive only ever stripped and cleaned them still on the rack as somewhere in the back of my head I seem to remember seeing somewhere that once taken off the rack it involves a lot of extra setting up over and above normal syncing.

15 Aug 2022 02:10They locate back in exactly the same position.Apologies for keep picking your brains Zed but once the carbs are taken off the rack does that involve extra setting up or do they locate back precisely.

The counter sunk screws take care of that.
The most you may need to do is rebalance the carbs and set the idle but i've done it many times and found that because of the accuracy of the assembly the previous settings don't change.

Thats great thank you for your help.
Will try to put up with them until summer is on the decline then strip them down and be sending the choke plungers off to you.
I just hope that will be the fix.

I'm cleaning/rebuilding a set of early vm 28sc carbs (early 1974) when I dismantled these I found no sign of these not even any small bits. In the diagram I'll post below part #15 choke plunger O-ring, There is an asterisk next to the part # that states (These parts may not be required) so I take it that these early carbs don't require these O-rings ?

16 Aug 2022 05:54Yes. the early ones had no 'O' ring and some had a fiber washer. There is an 'O' ring that sits under the nut and a dust cap that goes on top.

Thank you very much for the quick reply zed! One more question if you don't mind.
I am missing three of the felt dust seals part #11 would it be ok to run without these ? If not where would I find them.
And Thanks again you've been very helpful !

Re: Choke Plungers Failing ?
16 Aug 2022 07:08Won't really do any harm running without them but you can get them from Niche Cycles ( they are the same for all the VM's ) or get some felt sheet and make them yourself.Thank you very much for the quick reply zed! One more question if you don't mind.
