Slide Valve starting point on carburetor was created by Rick72
I have a question and it might be a stupid but i have to ask anyway. I am currently rebuilding a set of VM26SS carbs. I was wondering if there is a measurement of the slide valve off the carb body on the engine side. I would think there is a minimum and maximum starting point for them that can be done to get them close before you install them and synchronize them on the bike. Any help would be appreciated.

It's called bench sync. I use a piece of irrigation wire under the slide and make them all the same. Some carbs have a 'lead" carb that is fixed so you adjust that one using the idle stop screw then adjust the rest to match.

Thanks for the answer. You wouldnt happen to know the diameter of the irrigation wire would you?

I just eyeball the slides to get them close. Open about 1/8" open is about right for the first start. Then do a vacuum sync on the bike, and of course set the throttle stop for a nice idle.

I think it's 22 gauge. Just regular irrigation wire. The idea is to get them close then sync them or not. Jeff Z1E says he just bench syncs his with a higher idle. The smaller fours need vacuum sync or they'll rattle like hell at idle.
