Choke tube was created by Andyp62
Hi
i have stripped my Z650b carbs down and found that two of the long brass tubes that protrude down into the float chamber are damaged and need replacing, I was told they are for the choke pick up but I can’t see them on any parts diagrams to try order new ones, does anyone have a part number for them ? the bike is in the U.K. but it is an import so I may be looking in the wrong places, it is a 1978 B2
thanks all

Those tubes were never available as a spare part and form part of the carb body as one assembly.
There are also no replacements that exist and available to buy.
What we do is repair them and depending on the damage you can either use solder to repair a split etc or buy some brass tube of the correct diameter and make some new ones to press back in.

You can get the correct I'd brass tube from a aero modeling shop to replace them but then you will need to solder the end closed and then drill the correct diameter hole through the solder.
The other option is buy tube so that you can sleeve the original if its just split and not broken off flush.
If it is broken off flush you nave no option but to drill it out and replace it.

One other option is to buy a couple of old VM carbs, cut them apart to extract the tube, then press them into your carbs after you remove the broken tubes.  You may be able to just pull out the tubes, but for the new tubes I wouldn't chance damaging them, thus the recommendation to cut them out.

Never thought of a sleeve slipped over and soldered. This method could be used to replace a split half. Cut off the damaged portion,  cut a donor replacement to length. Sleeve and solder. Albeit unless complete removal and replacement is still a better option. Just another tool. Good idea.

I'm not so sure.  The tube fits down into a bore in the float bowl and there needs to be room around the tube in this bore or the tube can't pick up fuel.

You are correct. The location and OD of the sleeve would have to take into account the ID of the bowl choke bore/passage.

It only goes down into the recess by a few mm. You don't need to sleeve the full length just were the split is. This has the bonus of not having to faff about soldering and then drilling the correct dia pickup hole. Done it plenty of times on corroded messed up carbs, works a treat.

If pulling tubes is this easy I’d suggest buying parts carb rack with good choke tubes and replace them. Fast forward in the video till 8:40. This guy is amazing. Hack saw, Swiss Army knife, and files he builds some amazing quality stuff.
