Kz1000 stutters when coming off choke was created by 1000Dunc
Hi new to the forum, from Nottingham UK. I have a1977 kz1000 ltd which I’ve had for about a year. I have a problem within the first one to two miles. The bike starts up easily from cold and everything is ok and when you start to reduce the choke the bike starts to bog down and lose a bit of power even giving it more choke does not help, then after approx half mile its back to normal and will run perfect mile after mile. It has manual pet cock, pods, 4 into 2 stainless exhaust. Since I’ve had the bike I have not had to touch it so have no idea about jets etc, the mixture screws are 1 turn out. I’ve had the symptoms mostly since I’ve had it so thought I would do something about it. Cheers

If you're attempting to ride the bike cold with the choke on it's normal for it to be touchy.  Sounds like it runs just fine when it's warm.  How long do you wait after starting it when it's cold?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Leave for for about a minute pulls off perfect and is ok for about a mile then starts to stutter when closing the choke then runs boggy for about half mile then ok. Could be fuel starvation on choke using too much fuel and floats not high enough?

Just my opinion! Sounds like your not letting it warm up long enough. They are cold blooded machines, one minute on choke to warm up might not be enough. After starting on full choke lower the choke till you get about a 1,500/1,800 rpm. I let mine run there while I’m getting my gear on. Locking up the garage. So it’s a few minutes minimum. Then I ride off without touching the choke till I get to my first stop sign at the end of the block. At that point I need to lower the choke. It’s takes at least another five miles or so of stop sign to stop sign runs till I’m completely off choke. Now if I go the other route out of my neighborhood,  I get to a 45 mph highway within a few blocks once I pull onto there I drop the choke completely because I’m in the upper rpm range already and the bike will run fine.

Just my weird habit.
I don't turn off the choke till the cylinder fins are hot to the touch.
This tells me the cylinder head should be hot enough to keep the fuel and air mixed together.

Yes I’m going to try letting it run on at home knock it off and try to set off without drama. Will let you know but winter on the way so won’t get out as often as would like. Thanks for the tips.

You let it warm up for a mere minute or so?  Let it warm up for 5 minutes or so and then let us know how it performs.  Keep in mind that the bike does not have all the new fangled stuff that new machines have.  Ed

The ebay item id given is invalid, no result has been sentLooks like your a candidate for your fellow Countryman "ZED1015" here on this site. Rob Meggit. He makes and sells air corrector jets for this purpose. Many Guys on this site have used them. My quick search did not find them? He used to post them on all his posts but? The KZ Government might have taken his ad posts down? FB and other sites are cranking them out?
Plus he sells them on eBay.

I'm still doing the Jets and plungers service.
The links have been in my sig for a couple of years but have now disappeared which i have just noticed now it's been pointed out.
Not my doing and if there was a problem with that i wish admin or someone would have informed me first before removing them although now i have said that i see that the links are still on my profile so maybe there's something in the sites programming stopping them from being shown now ?

Anyone who needs the jets or their plungers repairing should just PM me here ,FB or go through the Ebay listings. .
Thanks.
