Stuck carb slides

Hey everyone, and thanks in advance. I’ve got a 1980 kz 750 H1 with the third slide stuck so bad it’s almost like it’s welded on.there was so much trash and what not.  I’ve been reading thru the forums and saw that you could heat the carb and it might free it up. But the rubber and plastics in there seem like they would be harmed. I’m open to all suggestions and thanks again in advance 

Heat is your friend.  There is varnish gluing the slide inside the carb throat.  A heat gun on the outside of the carb body will release it.  A torch will do as well but be careful.  Heat both sides of the carb body evenly.

Good deal. Imma give it a try in just a few and post an update. I just tried warming it up on the bike but couldn’t keep it running long enough. 

Running the bike would probably make it colder if anything. I recommend removal. Be careful with the heat you apply.

Red flag trying to run stock jetted carbs without the airbox.  It should start okay if the carbs are clean but the engine will run drastically lean.  And installing pods won't help the matter.  And (2) running cheap dimestore pods like Emgo's are worst case situation.  If you insist on running pods spend some $ and buy quality K&N's, UNI's, APE (not sure they have the correct size,) etc, jobbies.

+1 here. Heat gun. No open flame, unless the carb rack is broken down and all fuel is gone…

About how hot do I need to get it. I’ve got the carbs off but still together and took a heat gun to it for about 6 to 8 seconds on each side with no movement. 

boil some water and drop them in. works like a charm

It's going to take a lot more heat than that.  Put constant pressure upward on the slide using a soft tool like a piece of wood while moving the heat gun from one side to the other.  And keep the air off the rubber diaphragm to the extent possible.

BTW, the hot water trick seems interesting.  Maybe try this...

For as much heat that I was comfortable applying for the first go around it loosened it up enough to where I have a touch of throttle response, so I’m moving in the right direction lol. I know the heat gun would knock it out the rest of the way but I’m wanting to check out the boiling water trick. Do I leave them whole or break them down?  And thanks abunch  guys for the feed back   It’s really appreciated 

Pull the bowls and caps then soak the carbs in straight pine sol for 24hrs.  That will clean everything out.

That will turn the carb bodies dark gray and remove plating from the steel parts.

Honestly, I've restored at least a dozen carbs with stuck slides and a blast with a torch or heat gun has released the slide every time.  Too much talk and not enough action here.
