BS34 - Missing plug and o-ring - part search
21 Jan 2021 07:27
Greetings,
I'm looking for some advice on how to replace a couple of parts on my BS34s on my 82 LTD1000. When I took the carbs apart (chasing another issue) for cleaning, I noticed that the plug and o-ring circled on the image attached were not in the carbs. I don't have any fuel leakage, but would like for them to be "right" if possible. I did some searching based on the part numbers (92066 - 92066-1086 and 11009 - 11009-1240) but didn't have any luck.
So I guess the question is two-fold. If I don't have any leakage, do these need to be replaced, and if they need to be replaced........with what?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Edit: I erased the info previously posted because I misunderstood the problem.
The plugs you mention are to seal a passage up into the carb throat. I think you need those plugs or you can get vacuum leaks or fuel can leak through. I've never seen those plugs sold anywhere. I've hacked apart old scrap carb bodies to get the plugs to fix carbs like yours. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions other than buying a couple of old bodies. Maybe try the Parts Wanted forum?

Those are just aluminum slugs to plug the hole when they drilled the bypass holes for the pilot system in the venturi. The rubber o-ring is actually a distancing/sealing flat rubber o-ring to keep the slug in place and seal off the slug to casting. Probably stuck to the gasket in the past and got pitched. But double check your old gaskets to see if they are there. Any BS32-34 slug will work. A thick-er snug fitting conventional o-ring will suffice to replace the previous square one. I should have some of these laying around, how many do you need?

That plug seems like another good candidate for 3D printing. It probably doesn't need to be aluminum.
ps: already alluded to but the 1240 part is listed as a gasket in the diagrams.
While looking for alternatives, I stumbled across these, but I have no idea how suitable they'd be or even if they'd work.
Not sure if the heads would interfere with anything. wondering, though, if they could be loctited in place. ???

The plugs in question are tapered wedge shaped. The taper is fairly small but enough to hold them in place. It would be easy to make some with a lathe, or in a pinch, using a bench grinder.

Thanks. I've seen Honda rubber carburetor plugs that're tapered & measure 8mm OD top & 5.6 mm OD bottom. I don't know what size the BS34 orifice is.

Thanks gentlemen for the input. It makes sense now. Here's a pic of what I see when I open the bowl.
(Yes, I know the Pilot Jet plug is missing as well, thanks previous owner)
Does anyone have a pic of what it SHOULD look like in case I have to fab it up?
Thanks
Scott

I'm confused. In the photo it shows the pilot plug missing but the metal plug is in place. What am I missing?

Here's a photo of the carb body where you can see better, the other one was a bit hard to see.
The screwdriver is in the lower section where there is no mating surface for the gasket to sit on, so I thought that's where this plug would fill the gap.

I started to figure if that was the plug you were referring to. I have never seen it removed, or tried to for that sake. Thought it was from the machining process.
But guess they can be machined on a miniature lathe.
