I'm restoring a 76 KZ900. The bike had pod filters on it but thankfully the previous owner saved the original air box, boots, clamps, and the silencer tube.
I'll be reinstalling the stock set up and during carb rebuilds will return every thing to stock settings and jetting.
Question, inside the snorkel / silencer tube there is a long round filter looking thing. I'm assuming it deadens the intake sound? Anyway, are these filters available,
perhaps from some other application ???
Thanks

This modification has been suggested. I have no experience with it but thought I help you with additional options. I did research the filter and it appears to be the correct ID to clamp on the OD of the air box where the silencer would normally go. I started a thread asking for input if any you else had done the mod but only got one reply, from the guy that found the post from back in 2011.

The factory airbox has been modified as per suggestion by the (late) Larry Cavanaugh. Wire mesh screens removed from inside of box, No Air cleaner inside of box with K&N RC-2600 clamp on filter in place of Factory airbox silencer

The reason that I have been using this air box "set up" suggested by Larry Cavanaugh is that it is very similar to the one I have used on my ZRX1200 for the past 15 years that I bought from Factory Pro / " The Kit".. It is a very clean set up. Appears "factory stock" from the outside and when you open up the seat it looks very clean/sano..

Also remember, I am using this set up on a 1980 KZ1000 LTD. The O.D. of your KZ900 silencer opening may be different and the room underneath your seat may be different than my bike and may need a different style clamp on filter.
