So, I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ250ltd D1, I recently had the carburetor cleaned, soaked and blown through with air, the bike started today for the first time in years(last time I remember it started when I was 16...ten years later...) running rough as I have no air filter on it because the old filter is completely no good. Does anyone have a recommendation for an air filter replacement? I've read these bikes should have the old air box and filter cause other then that ill have to retune the carb, and I'd rather not do that and somehow magically find a stock air filter replacement. Please and thank you!!

CMSNL, Partzilla, and Kawasaki all list that part as NLA.

There is a small chance of finding a nos one someplace. Perhaps the old filter material can be replaced with some fron a different filter.

I don't know if 14073 protrudes into the box far enough, but maybe you could install a single pod filter inside the box.

Actually, I found a forum that ended up answering my question.

www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/threads/repla...lter-81-kz250.65234/

It's extremely weird that Kawasaki doesn't list the 11013-1039 filter as superseded, I double checked Kawasaki's website for one of the bikes listed in the list from the forum post #7, 11013-1039 does indeed fit my airbox it fits into the same air filter holder that mounts to the box. But thank you for the help! I wanted to use a pod filter but I was told by someone who has been riding for years, that it will cause it to run lean and I'd have to retune the carb.

Thanks for posting the link and solution. That is bound to help other folks in the same situation.

I know supporting these old bikes is not a priority for K, but it sure would be nice if the company would pay a couple of people to clean these things up and fix the parts section on their website.
A pod style filter inside the air box might not need much tuning, but certainly, if you were to ditch the air box and run a filter directly on the carb, you would get more tuning time than you likely ever wanted.

If you had to ditch the airbox for whatever reason (bad, NLA ducts for example), then I would think it would be relatively easy to retune the carburetor on a Single cylinder motorcycle as there won't be two or four cv carbs operating kind of independently of each other.
