My new project

Hello and good day! First post first bike! I have an 81 kz440 Ltd belt drive I got in a trade. The thing has been sitting for years and is now my problem to solve. My questions is this how do I pick and aftermarket/universal carb I can throw on this to replace the stock one for both performance reasons and the fact that finding parts for this is damn near impossible. If anyone has one picked already that will work for me I’d appreciate if not options and input are always appreciated. I’m new to bikes but not to mechanics.

For parts I would check the diagrams at Partzilla, then search the part numbers on eebbaayy. Z1Enterprises.com linked above may have some stuff. Also, check motorcyclecarbs.com or any other similar site. JBM Industries should have the diaphragm rubbers for the throttle slides.

Single carburetor conversion. Here are a couple of topics. I think DimeCityCycles has aluminum manifolds for a single carburetor. Maybe DoTheTon or other cafe racer type websites would have some conversion info.

My Custom Bobber 440 ... the photos are gone.
2004 kfx400 atv carburetor & copper tubing manifold. scroll down for this info.

KZ440 Single Carb Conversion >> has good pics.
New Mikuni VM34 carburetor & stainless steel manifold.

Seems like there was a thread around here in which a guy was installing a side draft Weber carb. I think that is about ten yards past cool, and without the stigma of low cost.

I suppose if you are into nostalgia and masochism, you could try an Amal carb......

The stock carbs on the 440 are wonderful. Very responsive for CVs, but they get all of the CV benefits as well. What parts are missing? You probably have more than you think, and any you're truly missing can be found from a Kawasaki dealer.
