Replacement parts

does anyone know the size and thread of the screws for the float bowls and diaphragm covers? majority of mine are stripped.

also where does everyone buy other carb replacement parts ie. gaskets, diaphragm's, floats and fuel lines? not sure what has been done to these carbs before so id like to start fresh and do an over haul.

Are you sure it's the screws that are stripped and not the screw holes in the carbs? Also, you mention diaphragm covers but you show the carbs as Mikuni VM24SS types - so what diaphragm covers are you talking about? Ed

The screws are standard M4 and M5 type. As for a good source of parts Z1 Enterprises is hard to beat. Reusing all your old Mikuni jets is safe money, just pick up new O-rings and other needed soft parts.

While this tutorial is not geared to Kawasaki's it should help regardless... members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/i.../vm_carb_rebuild.pdf

Yeah the phillip head screws are stripped. I've replaced them on my vstar with hex cap screws so I'd like to do the same on the kz.

Thanks for the info.

Keep in mind that there are no phillip head screws on any KZ. The screws that look like phillips are actually Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS), and using a phillips screwdriver on them can quickly ruin the screw heads because the pointed tip of the phillips screwdriver prevents the tool from fully engaging the slots in the screw (see image below). One needs to use JIS screwdrivers on them. This is true of all the crosshead screws on a KZ. Let me know if you need more info on this subject. Ed

This is exactly what I needed. am compiling a list of items but seems they're mostly 1 or two small things which seem to be the hardest to find.

Partzilla has the part numbers. Then search EB or Z1Ent.
In the diagrams the size is listed for some of the fasteners.
Get 5/16" fuel line & 5/16 fuel filter and 1/4" vacuum line.
If you can't find something, post the part number. I've had good luck with K&L parts >> made in Japan.

OEM fuel line is 7mm and stretchy. No clamp needed. The best stuff is sold by Suzuki. Order fuel line for a GS850 and they give you about 4' of the stuff.

It is considered polite to answer a simple question – especially a question posed by someone who offered sound advice. In an earlier email I asked what “diaphragms” you were talking about. I asked so I could determine if you really had Mikuni VM24SS carbs as you stated in your initial posting or if you had some other flavor carbs. Simply put – the Mikuni VM24SS carbs do NOT have diaphragms. Consequently, if your carb actually do have diaphragms they are not Mikuni VM24SS carbs. Ed

Edited. The motorcycle may be an 82 650-CSR w BS32 carburetors. VM24s w Accelerator pump have either 1 or 2 diaphragms >> an accelerator pump diaphragm & vacuum sensor diaphragm on some of the earlier models. :)

jarellano119. In case you aren't aware, there's a pdf manual available for the 1981 KZ650, but you'd need the 81-82 manual.
