Needle jet springs was created by Bigz
I'm going through the carbs on a 1979 kz650sr D2. I've gotten to the needle jets and I'm not seeing any springs between the needle clip and the piston. Is this something common for this year and model of bike or am I following the work of someone who hacked a carb job?

Yes, that's the spring I see is "supposed" to be there. There isn't one of those springs on any of the needle jets. The carb rebuild kits that I bought didn't come with any springs that could fit in the 1/16" space that the needle has to travel.

Partzilla lists them as in stock and only $2.39 each !

Looks like they fit a wide variety of models, so you may be able to score some used ones someplace.

Ok. So does that mean I'm not crazy and it does in fact need those springs, and I didn't just get some odd year with a carb that doesn't need them? I just thought it exceptionally odd that not one of the carbs had the spring.

Note the washer, #47. It needs to be in there as well.

This is it. None of the needles came with springs. The guy said it was running before I took it apart to clean.

A washer would keep the needles from moving. I guess the springs would keep them more solid. Never seen them before.

Not all of the vm24ss or vm22ss carbs that were stock on the KZ650 made use of the springs. It is my understanding that the carbs that came with needles that only have one slot (non adjustable ones) did not make use of the springs.
